I enjoyed the use of contrasting colors with the bright-lit background against the darkly lit subject. I think the bizarre nature comes from the red projection effect causing the tone to be more eerie and curious.

The faint pink light shining through the projector adds a strange effect to the photo, including the shadows that surround the woman. What makes the photo look bizarre is the long shadow arm, starting from her wrist then stretching down to the bottom of the photo. With only one light provided in the photo, there could be countless of different stories describing of what the photo could mean.

Photo Theme: Bizarre

This is a photo I took a few years ago in the Axinn Library on one of the higher floors. I was attempting to take a picture of the sunset, but due to the bright interior vs. the dark exterior, the bookshelves were reflected onto the glass, blocking the landscape below. When you first look at it, it is hard to tell what you’re looking at. I kept this photo, although it is bizarre because I liked that it showed the two scenes in one picture.

Continuing my theme of trying to find the loophole or the less obvious interpretation of the prompt, I was drawn to the life found at night when one isn’t looking for it. Perhaps on the walk home from a friend’s, what would you see that captivate’s you. Neon signs on a closed store always presented a fun juxtaposition. I also love the color used in this photo.

I’m from Maryland so I grew up seeing these lights many nights. I like this image a lot for a few reasons. The most obvious is the reflection of the lights on the water. I also love the way you can see the state house illuminated by blue light below and standing out against the brighter yellows from the busy section of town.

I took this picture at a Delaney Bailey concert in the city last semester. We were very close to her, and it was a very intimate venue, so the darker lighting really added to the energy. The dark and vibrant lighting helped to draw attention to the focal point on stage and eliminated the background distractions. The lighting here made me think of the nightlife theme because it reminded me of club/party lighting, although it was at a casual concert. The vibrant red and purple lights added to the fun, playful environment.

Night Life Photo Observation

This is a photo I took on February 13th at a concert at The Paramount. Something about the color purple just always reminds me of “night life”, and even if a photo is taken during the day but has hints of purple lighting, it very much signifies night time for me. The dark shadows on the saxophone player also create a feeling that it is night time.

Photo from pinterest. I like this image as it illustrates the more secluded and intimate with only one warm light. It gives a sense of reality of “night life” being a moment of comfort and unwinding from the day.

This is a picture I took this past December when I went to see the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall. This picture is a good representation of what I like to do when I partake in nightlife. Although it is dark out, the bright lights of Radio City and the skyscrapers around it light up the night, and the streets are still bustling with people. NYC is called the city that never sleeps, and the juxtaposition of the dark sky and the bright lights accurately portrays this nickname.

There are multiple lights lit up in the surrounding area, making the energy of the space feel alive. Usually when it is dark out, it is the brain sign to go to bed and recharge, unless you are nocturnal. But with the lights in the water fountain, the street lights, and the pizza joint, this makes the scenic view not closed out.
