Photo Observation #9

  3. I felt this photo was very abstract and surreal, with the illuminated head surrounded by disjointed hands. The lighting from below especially created this intriguing image that felt strangely peaceful yet wrong. To recreate this image, I started by using a front shin-buster light on the left side directed at the person at a 10 degree angle using the Deep Straw (R15) gel at full. Because of how intense this spotlight was, I felt there needed to be a fringe around it to create the lighting that spills out onto the hands, so I then added from the same spot another light, this time using the Gold Tint (L151) gel at a 26 degree angle on 50%. This way, it didn’t add a lot of light to the background of the stage, which isn’t in the picture, but it softened the spotlight and allowed the same intensity of light that I wanted with a more subtle blend into the background.
