Lighting Observation #5

  1. February 28th, 8:00pm – Farmingdale, NY
  2. The bright lights from an amusement park shining into the night. Dark surrounding town with those being the most prominent lights nearby, right by a highway.
  3. The other night when I was driving in Farmingdale to get some Five Guys I noticed something very interesting. I pulled into the parking lot and was sitting in the car for a moment when I saw something out of the window. In the darkness of this barren parking lot I saw a neon flame high in the sky. I thought to myself what could that possibly be. Upon getting out of the car and approaching the distant light I found that it was the very top of a roller coaster. Many brightly colored red, orange, and yellow bulbs lit up this fictional fire atop this gigantic roller coaster. Soon I noticed the many surrounding lights of the empty amusement park reaching out into the night as if announcing all the potential fun passers by could be having. I love the beckoning, eye catching nature of amusement park lights and it made me excited to see them so randomly in the middle of a standard Long Island town. These lights feel like fun, excitement, and comforting nostalgic joy. All the emotions an amusement park is likely looking to capture.
