1) A Fall sunset in Vermont
1 and 2 G R21, 3 and 4 G R8, 5 G R54, At 506 G R359
Cyc lights 2,3,6,7,8,9 G R019, 4,5 G R010
I chose these colors because in the research I did I saw warm oranges and yellows with just a hint of a cool purple in the sky. I wanted to use the cyc to blend the red and yellow, concentrating the yellow in one spot as the sun coming down.
2) Spring sunrise in a Gothic Cathedral
4 G R55 at full, 5 G R51 at 75%
In my mind the light would be coming through a small window high up in the building, so I placed the cooler light overhead at center and the warmer light right upstage of it, so it could be coming from the same window. I chose warmer lights to indicate the spring sun because the nature of the cathedral already made it feel cold.
3) Noon on a hot Summer day in Hawaii
1 and 2 no gobo at full, 3 G R302 at full
Cyc: Bottom no gobo, top G R302
I increased the beam width on this one and placed the lights at a high angle to make the sun look hot and place the sun at its highest point. I only added the pale bastard amber color to a few lights to make the sun look warm without washing the whole thing yellow.
4) Winter afternoon in Chicago
1, 2, 3, and 4 G L201 at full with a beam width of 50 degrees.
I chose to fill the stage with cool white light because I feel like a Chicago winter is cloudy and snowy so the sky is bright, but the sun is not particularly visible from any specific angle. I didn’t make it too bright because in the winter the sun sets in the late afternoon, so I figured the sun would be at a pretty low angle.
