The Four Seasons

  1. Fall Sunset in Hawaii

I chose this picture because i like how it only had orange and yellow tones, and that it is only through black silhouettes that objects in the picture are defined.

Fall Sunset Hawaii

I chose this photo to represent a fall sunset in Hawaii because out of all the sunsets that pictures have captured in Hawaii, this picture seems the least intense of them all. I feel like fall in Hawaii is still intense and colorful but almost muted in a way.

For a Fall Hawaii sunset, I created a romantic scene, with the sky light up in pinks and purples. The couple dancing is primarily light by backlight and sidelight in the same colors as the backdrop to create a silhouette effect.

To create the illusion of a peaceful sunrise, I used white, yellow, light pink, and light orange light coming from stage right and illuminating the front part of the model’s body. I also lit the back part of her body with dark blue light, creating depth and highlighting the colors used on the backdrop. Because the sun would hypothetically be low in the sky, I did not use any light above her head.

I chose a hazy, snowy sky as the sun is beginning to set for the afternoon, so I lit the backdrop with a very light gray/green/blue to establish a dark, dismal mood. I chose the model that had two people in a position that seemed to me to imply tension to further accentuate this. I lit them very dimly, with similar blue and green colors from all directions and added a gobo to create the look of shadows from falling snow.

  1. Fall Sunset in Hawaii

I chose this picture and the lights I did because I really like the purples and dark reds, and oranges that are made up in the sunset in Hawaii. I’ve never gotten to experience a sunset that has purple or creates purple and it really made me want to be right there.

(Background at http://www.islands.com/sites/islands.com/files/styles/medium_1x_/public/images/2016/02/poipu_beach_kauai.jpg?itok=aGuGLWbm)

Discussion: I liked the colors that Hawaii is able to reveal through its sunset. The deep purples and reds truly shine through the sun, with the trees only formed through shadows.

1) Fall Sunset in Hawaii

I picked this picture to use as my model for the sunset theme because I admire the purple, orange, and red colors. I find the purple looking magenta color on top to be unique in a way because in person I never seen a sunset with emphasis on red and purple. I love how the water has a reflection of the color red, I find this sunset to be beautiful.

3) Summer at Noon in England

I chose this picture to describe summer in England at noon because I like how the sky is a little darker than a baby blue and the sun isn’t giving off a orange or any other color and the clouds are in the sky nice and white. When I see the sky is blue it gives me the feel it is the middle of the day. People are sitting on the grass which is an activity done in nice weather preferably during the day.

4) Winter at noon in Alaska

I chose this picture for winter in Alaska because the sky is blue and clear of clouds. Since the sky is clear of clouds the snow as a main emphasis for the color white. I like how the sky is blue and then fades into white hitting the mountains. The snow is beautiful and bright and I like how the dogs are running in the snow. It looks like a nice day to build a snowman.

Fall Sunset in Hawaii

I chose this picture as an example of a Fall Hawaiian sunset because of the warm colors accented by the tall dark palm tree.  I could feel the warmth of the Hawaiian sun, and felt the colors of the sunset melded together nicely in a way that would make for a nice lighting moment.
