Light Observation

1 In the upper props room of Adams, February 16. 2 pm

2 Sun light coming through the window and hitting the stacks of furniture.

3 I was in upper props looking for table legs; furniture is stacked high all around me. Pale sunlight steams through the window and illuminates little squares where ever it lands. The whole room felt more like a grandma’s attic with all the old furniture and the dust floating through the sunlight. It was all very peaceful.

2. Nightlife

3.  I chose this picture because one of the things I think about when I hear “nightlife” is going out for drinks.  The great thing about this picture is the foreground is in focus and the background is blurred. I think this shows a great contrast between how a night goes. The light on the bottles also has a lot of interesting angles and reflections.

Party House Repetition with Primary Colors

  1. Location: House on Front Street, February 11, 2017 at 10:45 pm.
  2. Objective: A line of LED lights that illuminate red, then blue, and finally green, over and over. They are the only lights on, cascading the the small interior of the house party in the primary colors.
  3. Subjective: As the music and tight crowd was drowning me out, all I could see was the repeating colors of red, blue, and green. These repeating color changes, hurting my eyes with its repetition, made me think about all the times I had been at a party or one of the bars. I would go, arrive, drink, and then head home. Doing this same thing over and over again to find some connection or fulfillment. Sometimes I would, other times I would not. Yet staring into those primary lighting colors made me realize that I would do similar patterns for partying.

Lighting Observation 3

  1. Walking from Penn station to W 30th street on Thursday, February 16th, 2017
  2. Sunlight was hitting a colorful building on the opposite side of the street from me.
  3. I was having a bad day since there was an issue on the LIRR and I was running late to a rehearsal. As I emerged from the underground, i looked up and saw this ridiculously colorful building across the street, bathed in sunlight. These colors were so bright and colorful, they cheered me up immensely; putting a smile on my face 🙂

Photo Observation 3

  1. I took this photo on January 5, 2016 (London, England)
  2. Theme: Night life
  3. This is Nightlife to me because I would always walk past Big Ben on the way back from the bars. I loved how the light would interact with the designs on the tower. the clock face always seemed to smile no matter what time of night it was.  🙂

Photo #3

1) Photo taken by me at Rye Playland.

2) Night life

3) I choose this photo because when I think of night life, I think of bright lights. Night and dark is the best to show big, bright, flashing lights. For me going out the best at night because it seems to be more illuminating. When I go to an amusement park I like to be there at night so I can see a firework show or be on top of a roller coaster and view all the other bright lights from the games and other rides from below. The colors in these fireworks remind me of a party where you see all the flashing strobe lights in different colors and everyone is having a great time. Fireworks like this also remind me of the city were you look up and see all the bright buildings and there is always something going on. It is a pretty sight to see and it makes me feel excited.

  2. Nightlife
  3. I specifically remember the night life in Tel Aviv when I was there this summer. People often think of Israel as very old-fashioned and religious, but Tel Aviv is completely different. I chose this picture in particular because the city looks a lot like modern American cities at night, and it kind of reminds me of New York. It shows that Tel Aviv has a bustling nightlife and contrasts the ideas that many people have in their minds of what Israel is like.

Light Observation 3

  1. Wednesday, February 15th; 5:00 PM; Precision Urgent Care, Mineola
  2. Bright white fluorescent lighting
  3. I was sitting in the doctor’s office at urgent care, waiting for the doctor to come in and examine my jaw. The light made me feel very anxious, like I was somewhere far away from the warmth of home. It was warm in the office, but the light made it feel colder. I was filled with the desire to leave and go home, but the light made me feel like there was no escape. I closed my eyes and took deep breaths to calm down and get away from the harshness of the light for a while.

Photo Observation

  1. The Magic Camera by Eve (WordPress blog) https://themagiccamera.wordpress.com/about/
  2. Theme: Nightlife
  3. When I think of night life, I immediately think of NYC (Times Square specifically), bright lights, and fast excitement.  While New York is always a hub of bright, exciting energy, the energy at night is so different, and I feel the lighting in this picture displays that perfectly.  I love the blur of the car lights because they’re moving so fast; I feel that’s the focal point and embodiment of night life in this picture.  The contrast between the black night and the bright, blinding lights of the billboards and marquees also are what make New York night life so unique.

Lighting Observation

  1. February 14th, 2017 (Valentine’s Day!); 8:42 am; walking past the Rugby fields on North Campus.
  2. The morning sunlight reflecting off of the snow on the fields.
  3. As I was walking back from the gym, the light bouncing off of the snow kept catching my eye in an unusual way.  It was just warm enough that the snow was melting, but still cold enough for it to be frozen; combined with the sunlight gleaming on it, the snow looked like giant globs of glazed, iced frosting.  The smooth, glistening frosting-like snow suddenly made me hungry (or maybe that was the workout talking), and I found myself unable to look away from the tasty morning light.
