Beach Sunset

  1. I took this photo on January 4th, 2017 at 4:14 pm on Plum Island in Massachusetts.
  2. Sunrise/Sunset
  3. My friend who had recently moved to Indiana came to visit for a few days and she wanted to go to the beach after having been landlocked for so many months. The sunset was very peaceful and light. I had seen better, but this one felt very special and comforting. Light pink clouds took up half the sky and reflected on the surface of the cold water. It was freezing on the beach, but it is the only place we wanted to be.

Lighting Observation #1

  1. 2/1/17 5:40 pm, in front of the New Academic Building
  2. The sun has almost set and the sky is a brilliant blue. The street lamps have turned on and their orange glow shines on the bare trees in front of the NAB, creating branching shadows. The dull orange illuminates what is the outer section of the black box.
  3. I was taking fabric from the playhouse to the dumpster and i found myself attracted to the light glowing on the NAB. Every time I returned outside to the dumpster, the lighting became less subtle as the street lamps grew brighter in the dark. I felt very warm and excited to have witnessed the complementary colors occur next to each other.

Light Observation 1

1) February 2nd, 1:35am, window next to my bed

2) The bright orange light is from the street lamp outside my window that happens to be at the perfect height to shine right in my face as I am trying to sleep.

3) As I was laying in bed, ready to fall asleep so that I could get up bright and early at 8am, I noticed that someone had flipped my blinds so that the warm orange light from the street lamp outside the window I sleep next to, making it impossible for me to get some well-deserved shuteye. As I was laying there, feeling annoyed that this was happening, but also too tired to want to fix it, I noticed that there were streams of light that caught the dust I kicked off my blanket that had been sitting on my bed for six weeks during winter break, making the light seem solid, like I could grab it and throw it away so that it would stop bothering me and let me get some sleep.

Photo Observation 1

This picture was taken by me on January 7, 2014 on the 210 freeway headed west.

Sunrise/Sunset

The sunset was very orange, more than I had ever seen, and I remember looking at it and getting excited because we were on our way to LA to see The Lion King at the Pantages Theatre. The sunset reminded me a lot of the sunrise at the beginning of the movie. It filled the sky so there was no color other than the orange and yellow from the sunset. It reflected off all the cars sitting in traffic with us, making it hard to see because everything was so bright.

Sunset Over Florence

Source: I took this photo August 1, 2015 in Rome, Italy.

Theme: Sunrise/Sunset

Description: This was taken when I went on Hofstra’s SCO in Rome trip, taken when the class and I were overlooking the city. Besides the obvious cascading change of color from white-hot gold to amber, there was an air of mist that melted the light into the background and city. It reminded me of the warm and welcoming atmosphere that Rome gave towards everyone that visited. While this was a pretty sight to behold, it was a bittersweet one as this was the last night in Rome for my class and myself.

This sunset was a fitting picture to take a picture, as it represented not only the end of the trip, but also the finality of events. The sun falls and ends the day, and rises up to start it anew. Just as the Roman Empire end a millennia ago and left ruins, so had our trip to Rome. The SCO in Rome trip ended with a sunset over the sunny, vehement Italian city.

Lighting Observation #1

  1. walking on campus on 2/2/17 around noon
  2. I was looking at the gray clouds and watched the white light of the sun come between them.
  3. It was a gray day as I was walking from the fitness centre to the students centre. As I walked, there was a sudden gust of wind and the gray light from the clouds began to brighten as the clouds parted to reveal a shining sun and bright blue sky. I felt like I was in the movies and at any moment something was going to come down from the heavens and change my life forever. Obviously that did not happen but that is how it felt. This sudden burst of energy didn’t last long, however, and as soon as the wind subsided, the light went right back to gray and life continued on as normal; as if it never happened.

Sunset

1)  Photo taken by Rebecca Meyers on December 10, 2016 at Hofstra University

2) Sunrise/Sunset

3) I was walking back from the gym one day and the light from this gorgeous sunset touched my face, filling my heart with a sense of joy and hope. The colors filled me with warmth and I no longer shook with cold. Sunsets have always brought me joy and this one was no exception.

Sunset

1) This lighting moment was taken on August 5, 2016 at 8:36pm on a plane going to Louisiana.

2) The light is a sunset above the clouds. Theme sunrise/sunset.

3) Sunrise and sunsets gives me different feelings. In this picture I was on a plane and decided to capture the beautiful essence of the light. The sunset above the clouds looks different from viewing below the ground. The yellow light radiates with orange and brings me to my happy place. It makes me feel warm and calm, I feel like I’m on a tropical island relaxing and my worries disappear. The clouds reflect from the sun and bring out a light, soft, pink color. It may sound cliche but the clouds are like cotton candy because of how soft and delicate it looks from the view of the window.

Photo Observation

  1. I took this photo this past August at sunset while driving with my family to Coney Island.
  2. The theme is Sunrise/Sunset.
  3. Personally, when I think of both a sunrise and a sunset, I think of summertime.  The blend of the warm colors conjures up feelings of comfort and happiness; it is a very inviting and welcoming sensation seeing the sun rise or fall.  This picture radiates those same feelings for me – maybe it’s because I took the picture myself and I have a personal connection to it, but between the coloring, the way the rays were reflecting on the dashboard, and knowing our destination was Coney Island, a very summer-y place, this picture embodied everything a sunset means to me.
