Photo observation #4

  2. Bizarre
  3. In the middle of nowhere, there is no light emitted. Yet, from a far away field, red lights flash across the horizon. There is a rhythm, a consistency to their flashing. It feels ominous, like that of another world. Even though they are from the wind turbines, it feels as if I am watching an alien invasion or something of secrecy. It is the only light for miles, but it is not blinding, it does not emit more light into the sky. It is just a never ending field of flashing red, an ominous reminder that we are never fully alone.

March 6, 2025 Photo found on X

Theme: Bizarre

I found this image on the social media app X, where there is currently an influx of political media on there. Current Vice President J.D. Vance has been digitally altered to the point where he is unrecognizable. However, the lighting is left exactly the same. The background is bright and yellow and with all the people in the room it appears as though everything is normal. However once you really analyze the image you find a shocking discovery.

the Backrooms" - Our complete guide to the online game's explosive growth | US Mobile

6 March, 2025, Photo found online

Theme: Bizarre

I found this image by searching “the backrooms” on the internet. The idea of the backrooms is a space that feels wrong or off or bizarre. I chose this image specifically because of the yellowed walls, ceilings, and floors that are somehow lit by bright, radiating white light. One would expect a warmer light to be making every surface in the image seem so stained yellow, but the lights are so bright that their illumination shines past their insertions into the ceiling and are completely neutral white.

Photo Observation #4

November 25th, 2023 at the Coney Island Aquarium – 12:03PM. Taken by me.

Theme: Bizarre.

Piercing electric blue overtakes our vision, placated by wispy strings of cool gray. The jellyfish is technically the center of our attention, its slithering body absorbing what little light there is and spitting out in flat, ashy tones. Its one shining moment lies within the flowering of yellowy-white stingers (scientifically known as “oral arms”), whose spark fights the blue that overtakes our vision. Bizarreness exists here as the jellyfish’s dreary, slate-colored lighting strongly contradicts the vibrancy of its surroundings; the only light that seems to agree with the royal azure is its glistening, trailing arms.

  1. Ice Castles, New Hampshire, 2019, Taken by me

2. Theme: Bizarre

3. This is a photo from the Ice Castles in New Hampshire and at night they have all of these lights that shine through the ice to illuminate them. This was bizarre to me because of all of the holes that the light was shining through. I feel like we often think of ice as a sheet but it also can deflect and change how light is emitted. There are a few different colors in this image and each is affected differently by the ice that they are surrounded by.

1)Photo taken by me May 22nd, 2017

2)Theme: Bizarre

3)This is a photo of an actual plant that at the time was growing up out of the drain in my downstairs bathroom. When I came home from school one day my mom got excited and rushed to show me how the small plant had sprouted up out of the drain. Not only is the plant growing in such an odd place itself bizarre but I like the way that the shadows in this photo look as well, that combined with the fluorescent lighting and the way it reflects off the sink a bit gives everything a bit of a cool effect.

Photo Observation

2) 06/26/2013, photo taken by me 9:55pm

3) THEME:Bizzare

4) DESCRIPTION: The castle is lit with shades of pink and purple. The cheshire cat can be made out by his distinct, glowing eyes and his wide smile. The lights somehow create the illusion that he is transparent, as he moves back and forth between being visible and invisible. Alas, this is just light on a solid background, and not the cheshire cat.

  1. 14th of September 2023 at work

2. Bizarre

3. Although it looks like quite a normal photo, this was a bizarre day. This photo is of Queen Silvia and King Carl XVI Gustaf (Sweden’s king and queen). Because it was our king’s 50th year on the throne, my work had a performance for him, which he attended, as did other important Swedish people. I think the lights that are sort of blending them in with the actors are a way of representing the way we see our monarch, more humanised and less on a pedestal. For us they kind of just exist, it’s not much like the british royal family.

Photo from Google

Theme: Bizarre

This theme made me think about the glow in the dark mini-golf place in my hometown that shut down a few years ago. I couldn’t find any pictures of it so I just found a different place, but everyone in elementary school had their birthday parties there and the black light and neon colors always gave me a headache. The picture is contrasted between the bright colors and the seemingly empty space between them. Its an underwater themed mini-gold course and the eye almost doesn’t know where to look as there’s so much to process and so many bright colors. The lighting is so alien and unnatural that it’s almost disconcerting to look at, there’s so much going on it feels impossible to describe but it is certainly bizarre.

Photo Observation #5

Photo from the TMT Company, of their Little Shop of Horrors set

Theme: Bizarre

When I initially found this picture, it was extremely disorienting. I believe that this set is slanted towards the audience to make the buildings feel like they are leaning over you and there is no escape. This, along with the blue, purple, and black shadows, makes it feel very tense and strange, almost scary. The yellow-orange light coming from the windows makes it look as if the buildings have eyes, and they are watching us. The fact that center stage is lit, and we can actually see it also is kind of bizarre and makes me a little uncomfortable. It feels like something is supposed to be there, or like something was there and it was taken.
