Photo Observation #3

  1. My camera roll, February 7, 12:03am, a basement with Megan Sophie
  2. Night Life
  3. Neon and color. With the pink LED overall filling the room, there are multiple other colors (green, yellow, blue, red) filling the space. The wall beam is slightly in the way, covering the LED pink light creating a shadow of a dark pink. This lighting, along with Megan Sophie’s mood, creates a playful atmosphere, fun atmosphere. The glow of the phone matching the overall lighting and feeling of the room.

Photo Observation #3

  1. Webster Hall, New York City
  2. Night Life
  3. This photo was taken at a concert in Webster Hall in New York City, and it accurately displays the nightlife of the event. It’s clearly very dark in the room, with the dimness being broken up by scattered blue light. The light being blue adds a certain coldness to the room which I feel also represents nightlife.

Photo Observation #3

2.) Inside of Paul’s Casablanca in NYC

3.) Night Life

4.) Red is the most prominent color in this photo, creating a celebratory and passionate mood. The red and orange light in the foreground, combined with the blue and purple light in the background creates a contrast of colors that is often associated with night life. The boldness of the colors, and the fact that they are on opposite sides of the color wheel, make the room feel dynamic and active. The people in the image are backlit, making it difficult to see anything other than their silhouettes. This makes the lighting the most prominent part of the image, and the darkness within the crowd creates an obscurity and ambiguity that is often romanticized in night life. It also makes the disco ball the main focus of the image. The light that bounces off of the disco ball creates an intricate design on the ceiling that is fascinating and makes the photo much more intriguing to look at.

Photo Observation 3 – Nightlife

  1. November 15th, 2024 at 7:50PM–Outside Lincoln Center Plaza before a Paul Taylor Performance – photo taken by me.
  2. Nightlife
  3. At night, Lincoln Center Plaza is transformed into a luminous spectacle exuding a timeless energy. There is a contrast between the dark sky and the bright buildings; The deep, inky sky serves as a dramatic backdrop for the golden glow that shines from the inside of the buildings. The warm, yellow lights illuminate the iconic architecture, reflecting off the smooth plaza floor. The fountains are lit up by the artificial light and it is showcased on the water’s surface, while the towering glass windows reveal glimpses of life inside like art, light fixtures, and patrons.

Light Observation #3

  1. February 15th, 2025, 12:26am, Sophia’s House
  2. Backyard with a single light on in the corner
  3. While standing outside getting back from a trip to Sonic, I noticed a single light on the corner of the house. It is a light tinted light that lit up the whole back yard. The light was cast from above us and lit peoples faces up but left a shadow around everyone. My shadow was on the wooden fence the was behind the house. The overall mood was calm and peaceful to end the night off right.

Photo Observation #3

November 15th, 2024 at 9:03PM–Slow Pulp concert at a music hall in NYC, taken by me.

Theme: Nightlife.

Deep reds thrust the audience closer to the musician, the audience’s intent, thirsty eyes washed in a bath the shade of blood. Their gaze softened around the edges as pinks and purples spilled onto the floor, seeping into every available crevice in a bid to alleviate the room’s palpable intensity. And yet, a rich blue drenched her, overwhelming every part of the body–allowing her to float uninterrupted in an unwavering stream of sapphire. The two primaries fought intimately with each other, creating the same thrill and arousal that she and her audience so fervently craved during a late night of music and intoxicants.

Lighting Observation #3

Sunday, February 23rd at 3:39pm, Home Depot parking lot in Hempstead.

Considering this was outside, the lighting was “natural”. The whole sky was covered by clouds which allowed the sun to disperse its brightness over a large area in a white haze. If you were looking at eye level, you would have been able to see things bright and clear but with a slight gray tinge over everything.

It was unsurprising that leaving Home Depot I would immediately be greeted by a natural light that acted as the store’s counterpart. A sheet of clouds consumed the sky, creating an uncomfortable grey tinge that contaminated everything that lived in its wake. Despite covering the one thing that granted vision to the Home Depot customers, the sun still managed to be unassuming, asking nothing in its translucent white haze. Even in its attempt to conceal what would have been the bittersweet presence of a late Sunday afternoon, the sun persisted to illuminate what light it had left, leaving shoppers to bask in the day’s dusty wistfulness.

Lighting Observation #3

1) My off campus living room, Friday February 21st, 10:40pm

2) Objective Description: A single Ikea lamp with warm lighting and orange led strip lights illuminate the living room. This contrasts with the blue light glow of the television.

3)Subjective Description: Laughter fills the air of the living room. The warm orange glow from the strip lights and corner lamp frame the game night with nostalgia. If this moment were captured on film it would feel happier devoid of the blue tones humming from the tv in the background. College is a time for making memories and what better way to do that than a relaxing night in with your roommates in low lighting. Less is more when it comes to vibes.

Lighting Observation #3

March 15, 2024 17:48

Objective: It was at a concert. The crowd is holding up their phone flashlights with coloured paper divided into three sections to make the Irish flag.

Subjective: walking into the stadium where the concert was being held, I knew it would be an incredible experience just based on the mood of the people around me. However, NOTHING could have prepared me for the feeling when the artist played his first single, a song I had been listening to on repeat for about a good 6 months when it was released. Some fans have set up a fan project, asking everyone in three different sections to hold up their flashlight with a piece of coloured paper over it, and in the end, it created the Irish flag. While I didn’t do much, the feeling of being a part of something like that is indescribable.

Lighting Observation #3

1) The doctors office parking lot, Tuesday, February 18th, 5:35pm

2) Objective Description: The light reflecting off the top of the building mixed with the street lights

3)Subjective Description: Walking out of the doctors office I get into the car noticing that the sun is starting to set outside. I was the last appointment of the day and it was starting to get darker out, I look up towards the roof of the building and notice the light from the sun hitting and reflecting off the roof of the building. The direction of the light makes me look to my right and at the street lights that are in the parking lot, and how the light seems to blend together. While the sunset was a mix of orange and purple, the parking lot light was a dull amber, and when mixed some of the colors seemed muted leaving only the purple visible to the eye and the orange and the amber mixed into one.
