Light Observation #8

DATE/TIME/LOCATION: 4/4/2020, 2:15pm, Street corner in Brooklyn

OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The sunlight shone brightly against the concrete. The light reflecting off of window panes and car windshields was landing heavily along the empty block. There was nothing much but a bright, white light sensation throughout the street.

SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: I hadn’t been outside in days. Since I needed to buy food, I had no choice but to go across the street, barely making it because of how bright the sun was that day. Everything was bright and had a white tone to the street, cars, and the few faces I glanced at briefly. It was honestly really painful.

Light Observation #6

DATE/TIME/LOCATION: 3/22/2020, 12:14pm, Bedroom in Brooklyn

OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Sunlight beamed in between the dark wooden blinds in front of the windows, casted light on the windowsill and all the objects on top of it. Sunlight has gone through a bag of tortilla chips, casted a shadow on a deodorant spray, and brightened the cover of an astrology book.

SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Sunlight beamed in between blinds that don’t fully cover the windows of this bedroom, which defeats the purpose of blinds. The light is pushing through the darkness of the blinds with no shame, arrogantly waking me up along with all of the objects on the windowsill. Some people would find this lighting to be soft and pretty, but I think it’s pretty annoying.

Theme: FUN!

Well, my ride is here… This is the fanciest, most fun garbage truck I have ever seen. I saw it while walking to get dinner with one of my friends in the city and stopped because I thought it was a really badass ice cream truck, turns out it was just a garbage truck customized with colorful lights.

Theme: Night Life

On New Years Day, just past midnight, a couple of friends and I went onto the rooftop of the apartment building and set off the extra sparklers I had forgotten were in my car. Night life can be about celebrating, often using “fun” light effects to enhance the mood of the situation. Everything from funky disco balls, to LEDs, to sparklers and fireworks on holidays. Also us humans aren’t afraid of the dark and we like to show it off by exuding a butt-ton of light pollution to prove our point.
