Lighting Observation

  1. Date / Time / Location: March 12th , 6:08 pm , Pig Beach
  2. Objective Description: Before work this past Saturday, I stopped at a neighboring  restaurant and bar called Pig Beach to grab some dinner. The venue was large and full of people but still appeared spacious, since it was just one large room with a bar and kitchen along one wall. The room was well light with a bright yellowish color. There were no other colors present but there were lights strung along the ceiling above every other table.
  3. Subjective Description: The vastness of the space as well as the warm glow from the overhead light bulbs gave the bar a “home-ish” feeling. Not one corner was too dark or too bright, and the consistent lighting throughout made me feel as though I were never out of place, no matter where I stood. Furthemore, the calm lighting helped establish a calm mood for the people present at the bar, whereas loud and rambunctious bars have colored lights or dim brightness.

Lighting Observation

  1. Date / Time / Location: March 10th / 9:35 pm / Hempstead Turnpike
  2. Objective Description: As I walked home from rehearsal the sky was a dark pitch, black but the moon illuminated the sky rather well. Even though it was quite dark outside, the moonlight in coalition with the streetlights provided a safe pathway home. The neighborhood streets were not very bright, however the turnpike as well as front street were bright enough to see the cement ahead of you.
  3. Subjective Description: The moonlight was very comforting to walk home with. The streetlights among hempstead are rather scattered and dimly lit, so it was nice to have another bright light present. In addition, the beaming crescent moon looked gorgeous in comparison to the bland, black night sky.

Single Light on Stage

  1. DATE: 03/07/22
  2. TIME: 2:20pm
  3. LOCATION: Stage (from the internet)
  4. THEME: Single Light
  5. DESCRIPTION: I had a meeting with some film majors and we were talking about amazing moments that artists can build on the stage. One of them said that single lights on the stage are really powerful and I never thought about it but this type of lighting coming from above the stage has been used a lot in many movies (Flashdance where all of the water is falling on the main character and others). It definitely creates an intimidating, focused, and serious feeling. In this case the blue light makes it more serious because of the color, tone, and also because it makes the dark background become even darker.

Lighting Observation

  1. Date / Time / Location: February 24th, 10:55 am, my backyard
  2. Objective Description: The sun was barely visible through the clouds and the air was crisp and cold. The sky was a soft overcast grey color and the usual heat that the sun emits was not present. Although it was daytime, it was not bright outside at all.
  3. Subjective Description: I prefer to utilize sunlight in the morning to wake myself up and perk up my mood for the day, since I am a firm believer in the benefits of Vitamin D. However, this deficit of light made me feel sluggish and lazy. Moreover, the coldness in combination with the grey sky made me rather cranky. This moment showed me how much I truly rely on sunlight and a bright sky to fuel my motivation and emotions for the day.

Lighting Moment

  1. DATE: February 16th
  2. TIME: 11:04 PM
  3. LOCAATION: The 13th floor of Constitution
  4. OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Three people where sitting on couches in silence watching a movie. The lights where completely off and the room was only lit by the light from the TV.
  5. SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The light from the tv was a cooler blue color which gave off a very dark yet calming aura. It reminded me of spending a cold winter night inside underneath a pile of blankets with the tv on, or late nights with my friends binging tv.

Light Observation

  1. Date / Time / Location: February 5th, 4:11 pm, my bedroom in Hempstead
  2. Objective Description: My bedroom in the attic is small and narrow, but there is one medium-sized window in the corner of the room facing the sunlight. As the sun is setting, it shines a warm glow onto the side of the room and onto one of the walls. It’s warm-toned color displays a stark contrast to the cool-toned gray paint on the walls.
  3. Subjective Description: Typically, my bedroom is my office where I get work done, my dining room where I eat my meals, and my studio where I dance. However, I had a moment to relax on my bed this past weekend and seeing this light made my space feel like a peaceful, comforting bedroom once again. The warmth of the setting sun provided not just brightness, but a sense of ease and contentment. Since it has been cold and foggy the past month, this glimmer of light gave me great joy.

Light Observation

Date/Time/Location: Feb 9th, 5:11pm, Target parking lot

Objective description: The sun is low in the sky. There are thin lines of clouds in the light blue sky above a thin yellow-orange line. There are silhouettes of tree branches behind a large pile of leftover snow and geese grazing on the grass.

Subjective description: The colors illuminating the short remainder of the day time are the perfect balance of warm and cool tones. They reflected off of the greens and blues on the geese’s feathers and the snow reflected the colors back like mirror of the sky above. I don’t usually pay much attention to the birds on the side of the roads near school, but something about the lighting drew me to appreciate their presence.
