Photo Observation #6: Powerful

  3. Theme: Powerful
  4. The way the fire lights up in the darkness is chilling. the strength of the edge of the yellow makes it look as if the fire is pushing the hill out of the picture. The oranges and reds spread throughout the tree’s being cast against the shadows of the billowing smoke. Fire has always been a symbol of power to me. The idea that fire extended the day with it’s light is a perfect example of the power it has. The way the light is growing from it’s source and quickly moving across the mountainside is a perfect demonstration of it’s strength and power. It is making itself known and is showing that it truly is a force to be reckoned with. The way the light fills the darkness is the visual representation of it’s capabilities, extending night to day.

Lighting Observation #6

1. 12:00AM, March 7th, 2013 Crossing Oak Street

2. The stop light at the crosswalk is blinking red. A mixture of snow and rain is slowly falling down into puddles on the paved road.

3. Red. Red is the color of power. It is authoritative. It is present. It means STOP. As I cross the street to my dorm room, the stop light hangs in the sky, looking down like “Big Brother.” The red light is a beacon. It shines across the street and turns all of the condensed rain drops and puddles from a fluorescent amber to a blood red for just a second or two. The way the light casts itself on the rain makes it look as if there is an army of little people all looking up at the street light. They are ready for battle and know where their allegiance lies.  This light screams passion to me. It is powerful and strong. It makes its presence.

What, Where: One of my friends old photo projects, friend against trees

Theme: Power

Description: This picture portrays Power, as the model is in a stance of aggression and dominance. What is interesting is the shadows behind her in the trees from the sun. it makes a green, white, and black speckled design contrasting her in the front area. Although her face doesn’t tell much of the story, the single light source helps contrast her from the background giving her stance on the grass.

3) Power Photo

4) This photo represents power in so many ways. First is the obvious power contrast of color between the clouds and the pale brown desert. The clouds are completely black and incredibly massive, dominating the picture. The tornadoes are part of the clouds and add the the power of the photo as they touch the ground on both sides of the soldier’s head. This creates a powerful symmetry splitting the image down the center. The soldier in the foreground is holding a gun, another powerful symbol and is standing in awe of the tornadoes. The fact that the photo is primarily black and brown adds an interesting effect as well

Theme:  Power

When I think of something powerful, I think of mountains.  I found this picture of a mountain casting a shadow because it expresses the grandness and solidity that is a mountain.  I liked that you could see other mountains and valleys in the distance bathed in light and then the strong triangle of shadow that is the giant mountain.  The shadow looks so rough and imposing in contrast to the soft yellow light on the horizon.

2.) Power

3.) First of all, not much can top the sheer power of a nuclear explosion, and this is the Tsar Nuclear explosion which was apparently the most powerful device ever detonated. It was really interesting going onto this site because a video of this explosion automatically plays, and the force of destruction of this thing is absolutely insane! But all that aside, the light from the explosion is so powerful, the blinding mushroom cloud is pretty incredible and the arrays of reds and oranges and shocking yellowish white is so powerful it just jumps off the page!

3)  Power

4)  I picked this picture because when I think of power in terms of lighting I think of lightning.  Lightning produces a very powerful light,  not only is it bright but it is full of energy.  I think the light that lightning produces is one the brightest kinds of light and it is like no other light.  The light produced from lightning is powerful enough to light up the whole sky for that split second.  There is a mysterious component to the light that lightning makes.  I think it comes from the fact that there is so much potential and build up that it is a light that may be short but it is very intense for that split second.  It is impressive to think about the amount of light that lightning is really producing.  Thinking about theatre a very powerful image for storms is flashes of light to represent the lightning.  Even though it it may create a strobe effect usually to create an effect like that you would flash lights on and off from full power to zero.  These bright powerful flashes are what help represent the intense storm.
