5th Lighting Observation – KS

03/04/2026 – 3:25pm – Residence Life Office – At the desks
The light I am referring to is the light coming from the fluorescent ceiling lights in the residence life office at Hofstra. The light is a white-ish and yellow-ish color mix. It hurts to look directly at the light. It is bright and illuminates the entire space.
The white and yellow lights feel like a spotlight coming at you from all angles, which makes me feel more productive, tired, and overstimulated all at the same time. Since these are the same lights that can be found in classrooms all across campus, my brain’s immediate reaction is: learning/work time. This is a learned feeling, but it is so ingrained in my mind that I do not think I could ever unlearn it.
