Light Observation 9

Date.Time.Location- 4/11/19. 8:35 PM. Outside of my friends house in the Bronx

Objective Description- Thursday night I drove to my friend’s house back home in the Bronx to prepare to head out in his car to Concordia college where we both occasionally work. I stepped out of my car and stood outside, the sky above was cloudy, not a single star could shine through the clouds. On the corner of the block, a lone street lamp illuminated the area.

Subjective Description- My daily routine going from a 5:00 AM gym workout to classes throughout the day to my work at my church and then to Concordia college usually leaves me feeling absolutely drained at the end of the day, and this night was no different. I did however manage to take some time to reflect on the day as I gazed upon this ever bright street lamp. There are no other street lamps in sight on this block except for this one at the corner and it gave the illusion that mostly all of the light in the area was emanating from this lamp. In the midst of a dreary and gloomy night where not even the stars seemed to be out, this lamp shined forth to light the way. The light radiating from the lamp allowed me to reflect on the day and all of its trials and tribulations, this lamp was a reflection of me. Despite all of the long hours in the day from the gym to the classroom to the church to the college, there was still something burning inside of me that carried me throughout the last portion of the day and then back home again. This lone light filled me with the warmth and drive that I needed to make it through this final stretch, it filled me with the determination and energy that I needed to keep my head up and keep moving straight ahead. This light served as a reminder that dark days will come when the light seems to be nowhere in sight and it may seem as if its alright to just lay down and forget about life, but when there is still so much work to be done, it would be foolish to give up. Its moments such as these that do an amazing job at serving to remind me that when I set out at the start of the day with a certain list of tasks and objectives, the only viable option is to follow that lone light out ahead of me and see each of those tasks through from start to finish!

Lighting Observation

Location: Hofstra University at 10:23pm

In on one of my classes we have to do moon observations and what really intrigues me is that face that the moon gives off this beautiful yellow-ish white light. It caught my attention because I thought about how it would be to light moon on stage and how much it would actually illuminate the set.

The way that the moon normally make you fell is loneliness only because you know how far it is and make you contemplate about your life on earth. But, when you image the moon you get an enjoyable feeling because it a beautiful sight. A lot of people enjoy the moon because of the phases that it takes and also it allows you to be spiritually connected.

Lighting Observation 9

Thursday, April 11th at 10:25ish at night, walking through North Side
I had been walking back to my dorm, and noticed the halo surrounding the lampposts that surrounded the lights.
I am nearsighted, and need to use contacts or glasses in order to see what’s actually going on in the world. One of the drawbacks from this is that lights always have a glare, but it’s worse at night. Looking at lights, they always have a fuzzy edge to them, an I can’t see the light as just that. Sometimes, if the light is bright or strong enough, I can also see this sorta faint ring around the outermost edges of the light. The ring is purple on the innermost ring, followed by indigo, and green. The colors are similar, in a sense, to oil on top of water or pavement, in that weird color scheme that occurs. Seeing these lights always gives me a sense of curiosity and loneliness. It makes me wonder if other people can also see the same weird light array I am experiencing, or if it’s just another thing to go along with my poor vision. Like, does a normal person only experience the lamppost light, or do they get a glare as well? Do other nearsighted, or even farsighted, individuals also see the rainbow haze around lights? Seeing these lights always bring these questions back up, whether I like it or not.

Lighting Observation #9

Date, Time, Location: 4/11 at 8pm in my dorm room

Objective Description: While sitting on my bed I look in my mirror and see a faint orange light along with the passing of cars through my window.

Subjective Description: The lighting created movement from cars. This can cause one to look around and take notice of the entire area and a sense of curiosity since one doesn’t know where the cars are going.

Lighting Observation

Date, Time, Location: April 9th, 9 pm, on stage in Adams Playhouse

Objective: I was exiting the stage through the third wing stage left facing the lighting boom. The lighting was shining in my eyes, and it was hard to see as I exited.

Subjective: I exit the stage with an undulating spinal motion that makes me eye level with the lighting the entire time as I am sliding off stage. Pink and amber light filled around me and in my eyes as I left the stage. This threw off my ability to temporarily see and understand the depth of the wing.

Observation and Lab #7

because there’s a visible source in the original ad it was hard to simulate without the ability to have low hung back lights.

Lighting Observation

There was this performance I had participated in this house called “The Hau5” in Brooklyn. One thing that really caught my eye what the simple fact that the entire house was lit with colorful light strips. Depending upon each of the shows they had they would adjust the entire room to a specific color. They used a lot of red lighting/ pink lighting for the artist I sing with.

The pink or red lighting really gave you an intense effect because it went very well with the aesthetic of the artist. This intensified the performance because they were able to provide us with the proper lighting that would be able to portray our set in the best way. I loved the red lighting because it made it not cool but very warm in feeling. We wanted to provide those feelings to the audience and it helped. Plus taking photos were really cool because they all had a red tint to them.

Lighting Observation 8

Thursday, April 4th around 9:55pm in LHComm
TNL was doing their show, and they had their logo blocked out from a funky background that was basically different colored lights (green, pink, orange) against a white backdrop.
The contrast between the funky lights against the basic curtains and set they had helped to make it pop. It was primarily used as the backdrop for the band, so it pulling focus definitely helped. It gave me this sorta disco-esque vibe, in terms of the colors it used. Granted, they were far more muted than I generally associate with disco, so itt was almost like just a taste of it, without being to overpowering.
