Light Observation 4

Date.Time.Location- 2/20/19. 12:15 PM. In my car on the Long Island Expressway driving home.

Objective Description- I am sitting in my car driving down the highway on my way back home. The sky is gray and snow eventually begins to fall. As the intensity of the snowfall increased, my vision began to blur and eventually seeing what was ahead of me on the road became difficult.

Subjective Description- The sky above me was gray with the threat of imminent snowfall. The gray color of the sky brought forth a certain dismal and gloomy feeling that was amplified once the snow began to fall. Eventually everything in front of me became so gray and blurry that something so simple as making out the lines on the road became a difficult task. The road back home seemed to become more and more obscure as the snowfall increased. Soon it seemed as if all that existed was this gray sheet that looked to consume the world around me. This ever present gray at first presented a sense of gloom and desolation, but soon brought out a sense of calm urgency in me. This was an acknowledgement of the fact that the path before me was fading fast, but if I maintained my present pace, eventually I would find my way home once again.

Lighting Observation #4

  1. 11:30pm 2/21/19 My bedroom
  2. On my nightstand I have a rock salt lamp. At the moment this was the only light on in my room.
  3. I turned over to see my rock salt lamp glowing against the dark. Warm thoughts filled my mind as I drifted to sleep.

Photo Observation #4

  1. Attribute: Peter Kitchs’ Instagram. Photo taken by: Pamela Horton
  2. Theme: Night Life
  3. Description: In the caption of Peter Kitchs’ Instagram post he states that he is at a silent disco. This photo jumped out at me due to the lighting. The blue light from his headphones is creating a shadow on half of his face while, the light bulb is creating a purplish color in his hands. Though his background doesn’t have much going on the lighting to me is what shows night life and fun.

Photo Observation #4 Night Life

My Photo taken with an Accidental Long Exposure on Nikon D3300

3) THEME: Night Life

4) DESCRIPTION: An accidental long exposure photo taken of a string of rainbow lights hanging over an alleyway in Salem Mass. Obviously there are all sorts of colors in the Primary focus but there is also a lot of color in the ambient lighting around this section on the walls of the alleyway.

Photo Observation #4

Taken: October 12, 2018 by myself.

This was taken while going to a New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden. The cool thing that I love about the arena is that one special nights where there are sporting events or other events, they light up the side of the arena with colors pertaining to the event going on. Since it was a Knicks game, they did blue and orange around the outside of the arena with a blue rim around the top.

Lighting Observation #4

1: 2-21-2019 at 10 pm in my lounge area of my dorm

2: Objective Observation: All of the lights were turned off in the lounge area except for the lights on my roommate’s DJ board and computer screen.

3: Subjective Observation: The lights from the dj board made it very mesmerizing to look at his fingers and with the screen illuminating off of him made my roomate the focal point of the room as he was playing the music made him seem as the one who is the party of the room.

Light Observation #4

  1. 2/21/2019 at 11PM in my bedroom.
  2. Objective Observation: I accidentally kicked down the floor lamp in my room (thanks god it was not broken). My backpack and some clothes were on the floor and there is a clothes stand at the corner too. I saw their shadows get much larger than themselves.
  3. Subjective Observation: The floor lamp was aiming at those objects on the floor horizontally so their shadows were enlarged a lot. They were like motionless monsters given a lot of power but cannot release that. As if those objects were given life by the floor lamp.

Photo Observation 4

From NY Times at The American Museum of Natural history

Nightlife

Although I did not personally take the picture I do remember visiting the exhibit a few years ago. I have always been fascinated by creatures who are bioluminescent not only because of biological curiosity but for the aesthetic reasons as well. Since a lot of these types of creatures only live in the darkest of areas I imagine that if someone was lost in the darkness of the jungle or a cave they would serve as a calming, hopeful presence.

Photo Observation #4

  1. I took this photo last November.
  2. Theme: Night life
  3. The carousel was closed when I got there but all the lights were on, which turned out to be a surprise. The luminous pavilion stood out right away in the darkness around it. And the light from inside diffused through the glass, which makes it look softer and more dreamlike. Although no one is riding on it, I could still imagine how lively it is during the day and it feels like it is still moving.

Lighting Observation #4

Date/Time/Location: 2/21/19 at 3:00 am in my dorm room

Objective Description: The room was dark and the only light coming in was from outside. It did not make far into the room since the blinds were down.

Subjective Description: The orange light coming from outside was calming. There was just enough light to be a night scene that had a slight sunrise. I would hope that the coloring of the light would help with calming one down to a point that it felt relaxing.
