- WHEN/WHERE: Midnight, March 24th 2021, my bedroom
- OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The only lights on are my roommate’s fairy lights which are on one half of the room.
- SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The room is as dark as night except for a few twinkling stars. The warm yellow glow is not so bright as it keeps me from falling asleep, but just light enough to allow me to wind down with ease without being sucked into blackness. This cozy wash of light reminds me of lying outside and looking at a starry sky, minus the cold.

- THEME: Ad/desire
- DESCRIPTION: The lights come on and every feature of her face is flawless. There is no need for highlight, as she is already glowing in all the right places. The darkness of her eyes and the contour on her cheeks draw you in, longing to be her. The shadows also remind you that she is still human even though she looks like an angel.

- ATTRIBUTION: photo taken by me in mid-June 2020 at my boyfriend’s house in San Francisco.
- THEME: Spring
- DESCRIPTION: The sky may not be completely clear, but it is as bright and blue as ever. The sunlight shines on the leaves and brings out their vibrant green colors in a way that makes you appreciate trees so much more. Even though it is not fall, there are leaves of many shades. The shadows that land on the tree climber allow him to almost blend in with the branches.

- WHEN/WHERE: March 11, 2021; 3:48pm; Outside by Nassau/Suffolk
- OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: It’s slightly overcast outside, but you can still see the Sun through the clouds. It’s not too bright.
- SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The Sun’s blinding rays are dimmed with patchy clouds. Everything feels warm and serene with this even wash of sunlight and the light blue tint from the sky. The rays bounce off a bush with newly blossoming flowers that I hadn’t noticed before. Their yellow petals are a gentle reminder that winter is coming to an end.

- THEME: Single Light Source (Artificial)
- DESCRIPTION: As the world outside grows darker, the piercing white light from my lamp becomes harsher and more intense. It bounces off the paper on my desk back towards me, reminding me that I have a long night ahead. The blackness of my room tries to consume me, with this lamp being my savior. The world wants to sleep, but this bright bulb leaves me restless.

- WHEN/WHERE: March 3rd, 2:00 pm, my bedroom in Suffolk Hall
- OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: It is a clear day outside. The sun isn’t shining directly in so there is just enough light in my room so that we don’t need artificial light
- SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The bright blue sky smiles down on the world, sending waves of ocean inside my room. I am nearly drowning in shadow, but the sun is my life vest and keeps me from sinking into darkness. There is no need for more light, as the blue shadow is serene and reminds me of the gorgeous day we’re having.

- ATTRIBUTION: Photo taken by me on December 13th, 2019 at Rockefeller Center.
- THEME: Night Life
- Despite the lack of sunshine, a vibrant rainbow illuminates the night sky. This iconic tree doesn’t seem to have any branches at all, and looks completely made out of lights. This rainbow is not a cleancut arc with defined lines, but rather a child’s abstract painting with colors spilling over everywhere. It is in constant motion with a balance of harmony and chaos. There’s a reason why New York is “the city that never sleeps.”

- WHEN/WHERE: February 22, 2021, 5:35pm; My first-floor bedroom window in Suffolk Hall
- OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: It is completely overcast, but the sky is glowing pink, along with some blue in the distance.
- SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: As I sit on my bed, I notice a pink glow coming through my window. The sky has gone from a blank white to a blooming rose. Its petals rain down and make the whole world pink. Beyond the leafless trees is a patch of blue, creating a beautiful gradient. Who knew that a completely cloudy day could have so much color?

- ATTRIBUTION: unknown
- THEME: Cold
- DESCRIPTION: A thick cloud of fog swallows the park whole, trapping the Sun outside. Just enough light shines through so the world isn’t completely black, but it is difficult to see what’s right in front of you. A blue tint remains in the sky and the grass is a cool green. However, the trees look more like shadowy figures than a part of nature.

- WHEN/WHERE: February 16th, 2021; 3:40 pm; Davidson Hall Rm 104
- OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The sun is shining through the windows. The room is lit enough with natural light.
- SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: As I sit in the barren classroom, a ray of light shines down from the windows onto empty seats. The gorgeous blue sky makes me wish I was not sitting in this plain white box. However, seeing the sunlight shining on the floor warms the room and makes it more inviting. There is some shadow in the room, but no need for the harshness of ceiling lights. The gentleness of the Sun is quite astonishing.
