Photo Observation 1 – Sunrise/Sunset

  1. August 4th, 2024 at 8:09 PM – Prime Hook, Delaware – Photo taken by me
  2. Sunrise/Sunset
  3. It was my first day in Prime Hook, a beautiful nature preserve in Delaware. A deep blue, orange, and yellow filled the sky. The sunset reflected the warm summer air and the peaceful atmosphere of this quaint town. I liked seeing how the sky reflected onto the water, making it a light orange. This photo is a good memory – it reminds me of the start of a wonderful week exploring a new place and getting closer with family.

Photo Observation #1

  1. Cortina, Italy; January 5, 2025 16:53 (4:53pm) Photo was taken by me
  2. Sunset/Sunrise
  3. After a long day of skiing and putting my skis away, I saw this lovely sunset coming from the sky. The combination of the soft-looking clouds, together with the pink, blue, and purple, it was incredible being able to witness it as the day turned into evening. Seeing this sunset in person made it feel warm (even if it was roughly -5 C, roughly 23 F) and like it was a great moment to just stand there, and take some time to just reflect and think about everything that’s happening in the moment.

Photo Observation 1

  1. January 10, 2023, 6:25 am. Lamar’s Donuts, CO
  2. Sunrise/Sunset
  3. The darkness of the night clings to the sky as the sun starts to peek over the horizon, turning the sky a dark purple. On the horizon, it fads into pink as the sun barely peaks over into the sky. It reflects and highlights the clouds that dust and obscure the stars. The beautiful colors juxtapose with the darkness of the trees, the sharpness of the half melted snow on the ground. There is a freedom that the light brings, clearing away the darkness of the world and allowing a beautiful sprawl of purples, pinks, and orange. There is a reminder of how beautiful our everyday can be, a reminder of how beautiful it is to be alive. Yet, there is an element of frigidness that accompanies this beauty. The white snow is muddied and melting, a freezing oasis illuminated by headlights. The trees in the distance are dark and foreboding, blurring the full beauty of the sunset. It is resembles that true reality of our world, both beautiful and biting

Photo Observation #1

Photo taken by me via iPhone while in Athens, Greece on January 6th, 2024.

Theme: sunrise/sunset.

What should have been an easy, restful morning instead started at 7:29am, just barely over 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Waking up this early has never been comfortable–fortunately the chill of early January was extinguished by mighty shades of orange, pink and purple that dominated the sky. The sun’s cast was overbearing but was unable to penetrate the artificial white glow of the dock lights that bounced off the boats’ shiny finish. The fight between this natural and man-made heat let the group and I know that although our wakeup was rough, it would be smooth-sailing on our way out of the marina. Besides the obvious fact that it was a real sunrise captured in the photo, the light seeping through gray clouds and spilling onto gray sea water in a vibrant combination of color bursts is what made the photo a prime example of light within the sunrise/sunset theme.

Photo Observation #1

  • February 4, 2024, Hofstra University, Constitution Hall. Photo taken by me.
  • Sunrise/Sunset
  • This picture gives me a strange sense of optimism. The blue, yellows, pinks and reds, feel very warm and comforting in a way. The sunset feels as if it is saying that, although it is February and it is cold out, summer is around the corner, we just had to hold out a little longer. I think people associate sunrises with change and new beginnings, but I personally believe that sunsets are the start of new change and that is what this picture reminds me of, especially with where I was in my personal life when I took this picture.

Photo Observation 2/11/25

(My photo posted twice and I do not know how to get rid of it, I am sorry)

This photo was taken in July of 2023 at Old Orchard Beach, Maine. My sister and I woke up early to watch the sunrise on the beach.

Theme: Sunrise/sunset

Description: The sun rose at 5 something that morning, meaning we had to be up no later than 4:50 in order to walk down to the beach in time to see it. It was just cloudy enough to give the light some obstacles to move through, giving the sand a patchy glow when the sun finally rose. Deep layers of red, orange, and pink poked through the clouds and painted the waves a blurry mix of colors, creating a stunning image on the beach.

Photo Observation #1

  1. December 25, 2024, 7:14am, Walt Disney World, my photo
  2. Sunrise / Sunset
  3. It was Christmas morning. The sky was radiating a soft blue sky with rays of pink and purple clouds. Walking towards the main entrance, the street lamps were still lit from the night before while we hear children laughing from the steam boat and soft piano songs of Disney music. The weather was slightly unpredictable making some parts of the sky darker, but nothing could beat the light colors filling up the sky.

Photo Observation #1

2.)  I took this picture near a pond in my home town in December 2022.

3.) Sunrise/Sunset

4.) The bright amber light of the sun look as if it is trying to burst through the thick layer of clouds. The amber blends into a pinkish-red which spans the rest of the sky, creating cracks in the blanket of clouds. The beautiful mirage of colors reflects onto the surface of the water below it, making it feel as if the sunset is even more expansive. The clouds also made the grass in the foreground and background shadowed and darker, since there is no light on them. This makes it so that the bright colors of the sunset are the focus of the scene.

Lighting Observation #1

1)January 10, 2025, 23:40(11:40pm) Venice, Italy

2) Objective Description: It’s nighttime by the water (of course), and the only visible light is from the restaurants and the boats.

3) Subjective Description: Having just finished dinner with my family, we decided to take a short stroll while eating gelato around the small part of Venice that we were on. Being able to walk around Venice during the day was cool, but when the sun went down, it was like a whole new city in a way; it was incredible, and the sounds from restaurants and the water.

Lighting Observation #1

  • Inside David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex, Friday, February 7th, 2025, 9:20 pm
  • Objective Description: Beams of blue and yellow LED lights shine and brighten the dark arena from the center stage.
  • Subjective Description: The arena gets dark; the audience waits anxiously for the show to start. The only light we get is the ones from the stage, blue and gold representing Hofstra pride. It gives a warm welcome to whoever is about to “perform”; it’s a sign of support from our community. The lights come up from the stage as if they were fireworks; these lights give the performers a feeling of trust and strength.
