THEME : Summer

DESCRIPTION : My first association with summer is lots of warm tone colors. However, when thinking more about it, I realized that a large part of my thoughts on the summer have to do with the beach and spending time in the water. So, for this picture, I wanted to highlight the excess amount of light blue tones. The color pallet of this picture gives off the idea of summer to me because of its specific shade of blue. Further, the bright natural lighting that washes the entire landscape is a keystone of summer to me. During the summertime, there is not a spot of land that the sun doesn’t touch, and the ability to take in all the light is what makes the summer so amazing.

  3. Description: I really love this image because I feel like it really shows the mood of summer. The brightness of the sun through the leaves really feels like how a summer day does. I also love the vibrancy of the colors in the image. The bright green of the trees and grass easily says that it’s a summer day, but what really makes it obvious is the brilliant blue color of the sky. That color is not often present in other seasons

4) DESCRIPTION: I chose this image for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I think sunflowers are the most summery flower there is. They’re bright, colorful, and always facing the sun (looking towards the brightness of life). Secondly, I think the lighting in this image is spectacular. The beams radiating from the sun are almost cartoonish in their perfection, and it’s also the brightest part of the image. The contrast of the colors and shadows make the image much more interesting and help the viewer focus on the central sunflower. The lighting of this image perfectly encapsulates the feeling on a hot summer day; free and hopeful, basking in the summer sun.

Theme: Summer

Description: I chose this photo because I think summer nights have a really interesting relationship to lighting. I love how all of the lighting comes from these small individual bulbs but they come together to provide enough light to see everyone and everything. I also like the warmth in color of the light as I think the slightly yellow/amber hue provides a warmth that really shows that it’s summer. I also like that between the electric lights and the candles, there is light everywhere and pretty dispersed which makes the photo interesting to look at.

Why Visit Iceland in the Summer

  3. The light coming from the setting Sun fills the sky in a way that gives off a very warm feeling. It also gives the clouds and the ground a pinkish tint that the waterfall seems to be reflecting, which I find to be quite fascinating. I also found that the layout of the clouds in the sky gave the Sun a nice framing that gives the illusion that the clouds closest to it could be on fire.

Description: I went to a Peter McPoland concert this week, and the lighting was really awesome throughout the whole show. This one moment in particular I thought fit the theme of summer really well. The amber beams coming from above mimic sun rays shining through trees, and the red of the front light gives off the energy of the summer heat.

I chose this photo because this is summer to me. The boardwalk in Rehoboth is just about the only place to go in the summer that isn’t just a beach, and I spend 6 out of the 7 days a week working here. There is a serenity yet a lot of movement in this photo. There may be no people crowded like normal but the orange clouds in the sky feel like a swarm of people rushing in and the blue sky is being trampled by it yet remains beautiful. The white lights of the street lamps draw focus because of their lack of color. The iconic Dolle’s sign is a pop of dark orange next to the peach color of the sky, creating a nice contrast.

4) DESCRIPTION: This photo reminds me of all the summer days I spent lying on a beach with the sun in my eyes. Even if I closed my eyes, the sun was so bright that it would give my eyelids an orange tint. The sun is also reflecting off of the water, making it even brighter.

Lighting Observation #11

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: 5/2 – 11:43 PM – Colonial Square, New York House

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The light was on in the hallway but not the bathroom or the bedroom.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: As I walked from the bathroom to my bedroom to go to sleep in my first night of quarantine in the new and unfamiliar room, I noticed the light coming from the hallway, and the absence of it in the bathroom and bedroom. Emotionally, it signified my transition from the crazy day I had had where I had no control over what was happening next to the week of venturing into the unknown that I have ahead of me. Covid is still a relatively new disease, especially to me since I have never had it before, and while this week may be scary, I still have to enter the dark room and go on with my life until I can finally go through the door that takes me back into the outside world.

Lighting Observation #11

DATE – TIME – LOCATION : April 29, 2022 at 11:36 am, Jones Beach

 

OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION : The sky is clear blue, and the sun is brightly reflecting off the ocean. The wind blows the sand around, creating a haze-like illusion. 

 

SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION : The dusted sand creates the feeling of extreme heat as it blurs the vision of the ocean. Replicating an almost heat stroke like mirage, the sand distorts the view of the vast expanse before me. The bright blue of the sky flows uninterrupted by even a single cloud, making me feel at ease, staring into the vast expanse. Both the ocean and the sky seem to lead on forever. The washed natural lighting of the sun leaves not a single shadow behind. It is as if the space continues on forever. There is nothing to worry about, and I am able to relax, knowing that whatever troubles that I may have can be ignored for the next few hours.
