Lighting Observation #2

  1. Wednesday, February 16th, 2022, around 7:30pm
  2. I was sitting in one of the booths in the core on the left side when you first walk in. As I was eating my food, a fire truck pulled in and I watched the flashing red and blue lights against the wall of glass leading to Netherlands North.
  3. Normally when I see the flashing lights of an emergency vehicle, I’m either driving past them, or they’re driving past me. I don’t remember the last time I looked at them and really took in the colors. As the red and blue lights kept flashing, there would be a second where they blended to create a beautiful deep purple. The contrast between the bright lights hitting the wall and the almost pitch black night sky was really a sight to take in, and allowed me to really appreciate the way different colors of light mix together and the new light they create.

Lighting Observation #2

Date/Time/Location: 8:06 on February 17 in my dorm

Objective Description: The lights outside through the fog

Subjective Description: The lights I can see from my window at night are generally really crisp, bright, and clear. Tonight, though, their glow is dimmed slightly because of the fog rolling across the area. They’re still clearly visible, but they look a little blurred and fuzzy, and almost like they’re fading in and out instead of keeping steady. Across the skyline, the clouds lighten up just a little bit with a slightly warm-tinted glow and if you look just to the left, you can see some of the lights of the city very faintly in the distance.

Lighting Observation #2

12/17/22 – 3:15pm – Lowe 106

Objective Description: 28 evenly spaced, rectangle ceiling lights in a rehearsal room. some are brighter than others because the bulbs are newer. some have a slight yellow or orange tint while the others appear white.

Subjective Description: 28 static, pale lights with a hint of dinge. Lights meant to simply light a room, nothing more, nothing less. Lights that are inherently boring to allow those who enter to transform the room. The spiritless shine makes for a drab and uninspiring mood despite being a room where creativity is sparked, the ironic gleam of lights with no purpose other than to illuminate transformation.

Light Observation

Date/Time/Location: Feb 14th, 4:48pm, Holliswood (driving to LI from Brooklyn)

Objective description: The sun is lower in the sky and situated behind me. The low light is causing the blue sky to brighten.  The light is reflecting off of the road and cars in front of me and the lane lines and signs are illuminated and shimmering. The moon is softly visible ahead.

Subjective description: The trees, dirt, and road no longer seem only brown and instead have an orange and yellow glow lifting off their edges. The sky looks as saturated as an ice blue gatorade while the warmth from the sun contrasts cool tones of the end of a winter day. The atmosphere is calming and nostalgic.

Romance Photo Observation

Attributes: Taylor Swift “Lover” Music Video

Theme: Romance

Description: When I heard the theme I knew this was the photo that I had to choose. Taylor Swift’s ‘Lover’ is what I immediately think of when I hear the word romance and this image encapsulates that. The pink lights obviously give off the sense of romance as the color is often representative of love and Valentine’s Day. There is also something romantic about the vibrance of the light in the background yet the two figures in the front are lighted differently showing a sharp contrast and making it feel like they are the only two people in the world. You can also tell that this picture is from Taylor’s point of view as the white/blue light from above hits mainly her, isolating her further from the lights in the background. This image to me is the epitome of romance.

Romance Photo

ATTRIBUTES : This photo was taken in the Lawrence Herbert Communications Building Wednesday, February 17, 2022 at 5:39 pm.

THEME : Romance

DESCRIPTION : I chose this photo because the juxtaposition between the large space and the dimly lit part of the room creates a feeling of intimacy. There is a sense of reassurance and safety created in the sectioned off portion of the room. Further, the high window panels remind me of strips of moonlight, a staple in many romantic dates perpetuated in television. It is as if nothing else would exist in that space other than the romance itself.

Romance

Theme: Romance

Photo from: https://greenice.com/en/blog/lighting-to-create-intimate-corners-n76

Description: I chose this photo of these vintage lightbulbs because of the potential ambience they create. With the light bouncing off the twigs of the tree it is easy to imagine the highlights and shadows created in the rest of the space. This photo reminds me of a picnic in a back yard with my favorite music playing.

Photo Observation: Romance

2) This is a photo taken in Murray River National Park, South Australia. This photo was taken by Wayne England. (https://www.flickr.com/photos/29005492@N07/8947904173)

3) THEME: ROMANCE

4) DESCRIPTION: I chose this photo because it displays beautifully the multi-faceted aspects of romance, and almost tells two love stories in one image. The bright, yet solitary moon suspended and glowing amidst the hazy and intimidating clouds displays one aspect of romance: the tunnel vision often experienced when one falls in love. The one and only focus of the sky is the moon; everything else is hazy and unclear. The warm and inviting campfire juxtaposes the spotlight-like moon, displaying the passion of romance. The soft orange glow emitted by the campfire illuminates the surroundings, asking for campfire songs to be sung and spreading its fervor beyond the actual fire. I love the mix of cool and warm tones, as romance never feels one exact way. It’s a mix of emotions, colors, and feelings, just like the image displays.

Photo Observation: Romance

  1. ATTRIBUTES: I found this photo on the internet on an article about Lantern Festivals by Sarah Buder on AFAR.com
  2. THEME: Romance
  3. DESCRIPTION: The photo is of a Lantern Festival where thousands of people gather to light and send these lanterns into the sky. The result is a blanket of small warm lights that fill the night sky and illuminate those on the ground. I always think of romance when seeing these lanterns because it creates a soft yet powerful light that engulfs everyone completely, despite the dark night sky.

Romance Photo

  1. ATTRIBUTES: I found this from google
  2. THEME: Romance
  3. DESCRIPTION: I chose this photo because I love that, despite the fact that the city is bright and in the background, the couple is the main focus because they are silhouetted starkly against the backdrop. The city lights are blurred, so they seem to melt into the background and become less important, so the romance of the couple really stick out
