Lighting Observation

1) 2/17/20 at around 12:50pm in the Blackbox Theatre

2) The light in the lobby of the Blackbox theatre was incredibly bright.

3) As I walked out of the dark Blackbox and into the lobby, the sunlight was streaming in from the large windows. The light was nearly blinding, and I had to step back and cover my face as my eyes adjusted to this new brightness.

Lighting Moment #3

  1. Monday, February 10th. 1:00 AM. Amherst, MA. My friend’s apartment.
  2. In the dark living room of my friend’s living room/kitchen, my friend stands in front of the oven checking his phone. The only source of light is the oven hood light, throwing a dim warm light on his face and the rest of the room.
  3. After a twenty hour day, I was ready to sleep. Up at four at the previous morning, I had driven six hours in order to pick up my friends on the way to Manchester, New Hampshire. Our goals? To knock some doors for the Bernie Sanders campaign and see a live podcast. Dozens of houses, one venue and multiple naps on my part later, we had completed both, and I was lying on my buddy’s couch hoping for a few hours shut eye before my long drive home. Alec never sleeps; kid needs a near constant intake of Red Bull and caffeine pills to function, and as I looked at him errantly scrolling Twitter, I reflected on our day. I was tired, sure; the weak light emulated that. But at the same time, it was rejuvenating, invigorating even. This was my first experience knocking doors, let alone volunteering with a political campaign. Trudging through the snow and talking to everyday people filled me with a sense of purpose; that I was making a difference. Though tired, I was ready to continue. Now here I lay, a moment of rest before the next day of the fight.

Photo Observation #3

  1. Taken August of 2019, 8:00 PM on the rocks surrounding the Montauk Lighthouse Museum.
  2. THEME: Romance
  3. She had never seen a lighthouse before. Being from California, anything above fifty feet on a beachfront was prone to toppling at any moment. Montauk, with all it’s tacky merchandise and trendy eateries, seemed an appropriate location. Alas, the sun was rapidly setting when time came for the main attraction. Cold wind whipped across the island tip as we crossed the parking lot under the sparse light of the receding sun. The museum itself was closed (the price for her first oyster experience), but a path circling the coast remained open. As we hopped rock to rock, I looked back to see her admiring the ocean, and the pink-gradient sky atop it. While we had missed the lighthouse, shrouded in darkness above us, we enjoyed the moment of peace at the tip of the world. It wasn’t the experience we came for, but it was the one we remembered.

Lighting Observation #3

  1. Date – Time – Location: Sundown, Last Week, My kitchen
  2. Objective Description: Blue light comes in our extremely wide front window. Since our house faces away from the sunset small orange hues can be scene reflected in the neighbors window. There is only one lamp inside the house with a very tungsten orange bulb.
  3.  Subjective Description: Lighting really informs my ability to get work done. When the blue light floods the kitchen at sunset I feel quite slow and tired. But for some reason when I turn on the the lamp it’s deep orange fighting the blue creates some sort of kinetic energy. The light is still dim which generally makes it hard for me to focus on hw. However, the mix of these lights makes me feel inspired. As a result I am able to focus and work on a script. The creative juices are flowing!

Light Observation

1) Valentines day, 1 year ago, Portland Maine

2) A streetlamp illuminated in front of a store illuminated only the front door and window of the shop showing off the image of the ‘Valentines Day Bandit’

3) A lot of the store was dark colored, but the ‘Valentines Day Bandit”s image was in the window and the street lamp reflected off of the white paper and made it seem to glow in the store window

Photo Obersvation

Source: https://bucketlist.org/discover/be-kissed-on-top-of-a-ferris-wheel/#.XkagfShKjIU

Theme: Romance

Description: I found this image fairly quickly in a google search for “top of ferris wheel,” and when I saw that it came from a website about wanting to kiss a significant other at the top of a Ferris wheel, I couldn’t help but chuckle. My own memory of doing just that is why the image of a Ferris wheel holds romanticism to me now. To add to how perfect the coincidence of where I found this photo is, the light in the photo suggests dusk or early evening, which is also when my own expereince with this took place. I’ll always find Ferris wheels romantic, and this photo perfectly captures the special feeling that memory has for me.

Lighting Observation 3

  1. Date – Time – Location: 2/14 around 1:00 AM in my bedroom
  2. Objective Description: Looking in my mirror, there are no lights on in my room and my face is illuminated solely by my laptop screen
  3. Subjective Description: I was captivated by a video game last night, it stole my focus for longer into the night than I realized or care to admit, and in a moment of pause as I was trying to work out one of the game’s puzzles, I turned my head and saw my own face and body, but barely. The light from my laptop was enough to see face, but because it was mostly shadowed with not enough light to define my features clearly, I barely even looked like myself. I thought it fitting that I could hardly recognize myself in a moment where the game was equally hard to define and understand.

Light Observation #3

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: a Tuesday morning, in my bedroom. Hempstead, NY.

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: It is early morning and the sun is barely even out. It begins to rise and slightly peeks through the shades in my room. The curtains are pushed back and the light completely engulfs my room.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: I would prefer to not be awake in the morning, especially not this early. The birds are loud and annoying; chirping. My housemates are loud and annoying; running around. And I am tired and do not want to see that light in my room.

Lighting Observation 2

  1. Date – Time – Location: 2/10/20 about 7:00 PM at Barclay’s Center
  2. Objective description: The sudden flood of bright lights in the entire arena
  3. Subjective description: The lights throughout the arena had dimmed or turned off, and as the team introductions started and the players took the ice, the fill of the white light told the audience that the game was starting soon, and the whole arena exploded in cheers. Everyone and everything from end to end of the arena was perfectly visible, most importantly the ice rink, and this sudden increase in visibility created excitement for the game to come
