Light Observation #4

1) DATE/TIME/LOCATION: 2/20/2020, 11:39pm, Axinn Library Ground Floor

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The florescent lights beam down onto the scanner/copier machines and water fountains in front of the desk I am sitting at. The lights are illuminating the corner of this particular section of the library. There are two panels of lights evenly spaced in the ceiling to perform this action.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The florescent lights in the ceiling make me feel like I’m at the dentist’s office. They’re muddy and gray and don’t add anything to this corner of the library. This is my view from the place I sit at work study and it’s extremely depressing.

Photo Observation #4

THEME: Single Artificial Light Source

DESCRIPTION: This photo was taken in my friend’s room of their Brooklyn apartment. The lamp is the only artificial light in their room besides the main light in the ceiling. They just moved, so all of their belongings are scattered along the windowsill, and the lamp brings attention to it. I like the lamp because it reminds me of the Pixar intro and has a cool switch to turn it off and on.

Lighting Observation

  1. DATE/TIME/LOCATION: 2/20/2020 Netherlands Complex, 6:00 pm
  2. OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The sunset sky and clouds as I walk through the Netherlands courtyard towards Hague
  3. SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The slowly fading colors of the sky illuminate 3 clouds as they hover likes balls of cotton in the air. They are given a sideways shadow by the purple sun, making them appear surreal in nature and alien. The sky itself is a cyan-blue with tints of violet that makes me feel bittersweet.

Lighting Observation #4

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: 2-19-20, on the unispan coming back from class around 6:15.

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: I looked out the windows of the unispan, and the bottom of the sky was an array of vibrant sunset colors but the top was a very dark navy. This moment stood out to me because I never really noticed a sunset where the top of the sky wasn’t still light.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Seeing the vibrant colors of a sunset masked with the darkness of impending nightfall, emotes a strange juxtaposition between serenity and frigidness.

Photo Observation #4

Found this photo on google images.

THEME: Single artificial light source.

DESCRIPTION: The simplicity of the single light beaming upon this dancer gives the illusion that the world around her goes on for miles, and has no end. The spot light provides just enough light so that we can see the dancer, but everything surrounding her is lost in the darkness. It is as though for the when she is performing, her beauty, grace, and passion for ballet is that matters and for a moment the world goes silent and nothing else exists except her and the stage.

Photo Observation #4

  • Saturday, February 15th, 11:30 PM
  • Single Light Source
  • I was working a late shift at my on-campus job and had just returned to campus to close down the remains of big sorority event. I entered room 141 – one of our small classrooms – the find the room completely dark, spare the street light of Stuyvesant parking lot shining through the trees and onto the curtained window. Past the curtain however, the light formed an angled shaft broken up by jagged tree limbs on the wall.
