Photo Observation #9

1.) a scene from euphoria

2.) surreal

3.) In this scene in Euphoria, Rue is under the influence of drugs and very high. The lighting in this scene is not realistic as there is nothing in her bedroom that would actually cause the green light. This mix of colors suspends the realism in the scene to help portray Rue’s mental state since she also feels disconnected from reality.

Lighting Observation #10

  1. April 11 2025; 9:57pm; my bedroom
  2. The power of LEDs
  3. In my room, I have 4 LED tape strips on each wall and an extra led lamp that shimmers a galaxy like vibe with stars and planets. To say I have a lot of LEDs in my room would be an understatement. The main color was a blue wash in the whole room but with an extra galaxy in the corner by my door. With the help of some candles, the feeling is calm and peaceful after a long day of hard work. There is some soft music playing and I can read a book in peace.

Photo Observation #9

  1. A photo from Pinterest
  2. Surreal
  3. This picture speaks to me because of the color and the movement of the picture seems very magical and unreal. For this picture, it uses 5 lighting instruments in total. Three instruments on stage left. The top instrument has a gel number R25 while the other two instruments on SL is colored with R26. All of these instruments range degree measurements of 70 degrees and a soft focus to allow all the lights to merge together. The last 2 lights are hanging spotlights above the actor. The yellow tinted light is above the model with the gel number R008 with a soft focus and a 14 degree lens. The other top light is filled with a red gel number R25 with a soft focus and a 19 degree lens.

Lighting Observation #10

  1. Tuesday, April 15th 2025 at 7:09PM–Awkward corner room of college house that is too small to be a bedroom or bathroom, but includes a full-size window.
  2. This space is very tight and strangely assembled, however it includes a window that overlooks the street from the second floor. Considering the size of the room, there is little natural light that seeps in outside of this one window, making the overall look of the space dark. The window overlooks a tree with red leaves which become bright red amidst the sun setting. This leaves the view looking more picturesque and colorful than in reality.
  3. Looking through the window was as if it were the only freedom to be caught in the overcast room. Allowing it that title was generous as is–its strange angles and meager proportions more likely resembled a gloomy abyss. What was framed like a picture within this tinted-blue tomb was indeed a beacon of hope through the sky’s summery display of canary and saffron. Sunset rays gently brushed the crimson tree leaves that sat just beyond the glass, as if inspiring its next viewer to leap out of their dim existence.

Photo Observation #9

  1. Lightlab
  2. Surrealism
  3. I used four lights here, one coming from the top of the downstage right high diagonal (full), the bottom of the downstage right diagonal (75%), one directly overhead (25%), and one overhead but slightly downstage of the actor (25%). All lights used gel #201, Full CT Blue. This mimicked the highlights I saw in the photograph.

Lighting Observation #9

April 9th, 2025

My room is pitch black and the only light being projected is coming from the TV. It looks and feels like a real cinema.

As I hear the wind outside and the occasional cat it makes me feel tired and I slowly start to drift off. Suddenly the noise outside is loud and the only thing I can focus on is the TV. The flashing lights and color selection of the background screen are interesting. Constant white and black and the little bubbles on my screen. All of this together makes me officially fall asleep. It’s so bright and I can’t open my eyes.

Light Observation #9

April 10, 2025 – GIS Computer Lab in Roosevelt Hall

2) The lights are off, the light from the hallway comes in through the cracked door and the window allows a little light through from the rainy day outside. A Macbook computer is set up blue light lights up the room.

3) The solitude of the computer lab is deafening. It is my peer teaching hours but no one ever comes. Between the blue light of the computer screen and the light from the dreary day outside the only thing warm about the room is the stream of light coming from the propped open doorway and the sounds of people outside. With the lights off there is a calm feeling throughout the space allowing for focus and concentration.
