Photo Observation #6

Article/blog from website SUMMERANA – “Top Photographers of the Week – Artificial Light”. Photograph taken by Ammara Crittenden at aGems Photography.

Theme: Single-source artificial light.

The blue-grey steely light shines at a forty-five degree angle just in shot of the dancer’s upward gaze, as she seems to float effortlessly in its path. The light source is clearly artificial as the ballerina is photographed inside, and light beams are visible from a specific direction, being upstage and forty-five degrees above the subject.

Lighting Observation #7

  1. March 25th, 2025 at 10:01PM
  2. Objective Description: The “Happy Birthday: the lamp on the left corner of my living room casts rainbow stripes on the ‘happy birthday’ sign hanging on the wall.
  3. Subjective Description: The warm glow of the living room lamp illuminates the silver ‘Happy Birthday’ sign on the wall, casting shimmering rainbow stripes across the letters. The colors are most vivid on the left, gradually fading toward the right, where the light softens into a gentle glow.

  3. This is a photo of my housemate standing directly below our porch light. You can see the blinding white LED shine on the crown of her head. I indicated that the light is shining right on top of her head with the extra arrow line.

Photo observation #6

single source artificial light

After many, many hours of working on a small little white model for Drama 178, I started to play around with some lighting. Finally excited after hours of work on costume designs and the making of the model, I got to move on to making an artificial sun, which was incredibly fun, trying to get the exact colour that I wanted.

Lighting Observation #6

  1. Time and Place:
    1. November 24, 2024 (forgot where)
  2.  Subjective:
    1. a mirror room with string lights
  3. Objective:
    1. being able to go out with my dad and my sister, which we hadn’t done in a while, it was a nice fun day. My dad took us to this interesting place that worked a lot with using your senses. Many of the rooms used mirrors and projections to light it up. One of the many rooms used string lights to create different shapes, animals, and movements, it was incredible to see the many usage possibilities with light.

Lighting Observation #6

March 12, 2024 – my dining room

The circular light in the dining room at room

It’s really late but I’m still up for some reason getting work done. I appreciate my dining room because it has a nice table and it’s quiet, but also the light is so bright i can see everything from my notes to the keys on my laptop. It’s so bright in here that with all the curtains shut I lose track of time and don’t realize it’s well past midnight. It’s white but not blinding so it makes it easy to forget what time it is.

Spring

Seeing a photo of lacrosse instantly brings me back to spring time, windy weather, hot afternoons, chilly mornings. Almost summer time but not quite there, the lighting in this photo is golden and I can tell what time it is just by looking at this. I can tell that it’s spring because it’s definitely past 5 and the sun is still out and shining.

Lighting Observation

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: 3/16/2025

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The lightbulb in the windowsill of my childhood home.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Its my first time home in 2 months. The older I get the stranger this place feels; less and less like it belongs to me. While all so familiar, it’s not where I live anymore. Small electric candle lights line the row of windows looking over the front yard, and one of them is not like the others. The green light bulb it has stands out from the rest. It reflects off of the glass and tries to make its way through the thin curtains, adding to the strange feeling that this place isn’t quite my own anymore.

Photo Observation #6

  1. March 16,2025; 12:16am; A Birthday Party
  2. Single source artifice light photo observation
  3. I was at a birthday party when I saw a pink/purple LED strip sitting in the window. It was shining onto someone’s back and then casted their shadow onto the wall in front of them. This singular LED strip helped light up the whole room with a pretty pink and purple glow. You can see the color on their back showing the angle the light is sitting at. These gels look like they would be the Roscolux, Cinegel R4790 CalColor 90 Magenta and R4990 CalColor 90 Lavender.

Lighting Observation #6

1)    March 14, 2025, Hotel Room in Smithfield, RI, 10:03pm

2)   Dark hotel room where the only light is the blue light coming from CJ’s computer.

3)   After a long day, the lights are off. As I sit on the opposite bed I watch CJ write their lighting observation. The illuminated blue light frames their face locked in to the task at hand. Concentration is key and the moment is fleeting. In a few hours we will be back up again for a final day. The harsh color keeps us up preventing rejuvenation in the final hours of the day.
