Lighting Observation

April 7th, 2023

Time: 7:30 pm

Location: Narragansett Rhode Island

I was driving home and I saw a sunset.

As I was driving to my hometown I saw a beautiful gradient of orange and pink which covered the horizon above the trees. As I continued to drive for the next several minutes I watched the sunset turn from pastel pink and blues to vibrant combination of magenta, red, and orange. This beautiful array of colors felt to represent the hope and tranquility that comes with returning home.

Lighting Observation

Date: 4/6/23

Place: Outside Axinn Library

Time: 11:15pm

Objective: The light from a post shines down on the cobbled pathway, with shadows from the numerous trees.

Subjective: The light shining down on a warm night made me feel very safe. The shadows at the trees over the pathways though sent a little fear, from the eerie way the light dissapears under them.

Lighting Observation

Date: 4/2/23
Time: 7:08pm
Location: Merrick Theatre and Center For the Arts
Objective observation: I’m here to see a production of Heathers, so the stage is lit before the production begins. Three strip lights above the stage (downstage left, center, and right) create blue circles of light on the stage. Against the back of the set there are three sections of differently-colored lights, one for each Heather: stage left is green, center stage is red, and stage right is kind of orange-yellow, although it mostly gets lost in the red.
Subjective observation: The idea is there, and the colors of the lights make sense for Heathers (including the blue for Veronica). However, the execution feels a little sloppy and obvious, which is probably to be expected with a low-budget production like this one. It has a small community theatre vibe about it.

Description: A black & white Geico ad with a single white light illuminating his intelligent, academic gecko face. The sole source of light draws focus to his face, which is both adorable and clearly very wise, as well as to his glasses, which emphasize the seriousness of the subject on which he is speaking.

The white color comes from the top and left front, lighting up the character. The left front light is the strongest one, made the shadow behind her. And there is also a light from the right side of the character, it gives some light on her body, but not too strong.

The focus is on the models eyes, which is selling the mascara. It makes you desire to use this product with the single light source on her drawing all attention.

Dylan Purple Versace Perfume Ad

Description: The model is standing right behind the huge perfume bottle, and both are sitting on top of some rocks. The fragrance is called Dylan Purple and this ad definitely screams purple. There is purple gradient as the background, the model’s dress is purple, and the perfume bottle is a vibrant purple as well. The model and bottle are lighted in a neutral/cool white light and both are lighted pretty equally. So much purple does not do a good job of directing my eyes to the product but it definitely makes me remember “purple.”
