9th Lighting Observation

  1. April 8th, 2026 – 9:01 am – Unispan
  2. I was walking to work early in the morning. The sunlight coming in through the unispan windows was super bright this particular morning. With the sun having only been up for a few hours and the unispan windows sort of tapering off at the ends and coming to a point in the center, the light was casting some super cool shadows which made broken up squares and triangles of light on the ground.
  3. The primary light source was the sunlight, which was a very bright gold hue. The big shadows of the unispan windows were crisp since the light was so bright. They were also cast at a very visible angle (maybe 45 degrees?) with where the sun was in the sky.

Lighting Lab Assignment

(Only used plain white for this lighting)

For me, I found it pretty hard to plot this solely because there were so many ways that the lights could be going. I wanted to keep that dim yet brighter feeling with the lighting especially on the boy in the middle. As for the right, which is where the girl is sitting, I ended up needing two lights so that we can see the light on her face from behind her but also to the side of her. But I think what had stumped me was the light on the table. It was unsure whether to have a smaller degree lighting distance or not since there are pieces of the table that are also lit as well.

Lighting Observation #9

  1. April 7th – 7:17pm – Black Box Theater Dressing Rooms
  2. Warmer mirror lights shining onto the room from both sides of our section
  3. Sitting getting ready for the second dress rehearsal of Dog Sees God I have the warm lights of the dressing room mirror shining on me. These lights while also physically warm have always felt so cozy to me. I’ve sat here on many nights backstage of a show listening as the scenes go by and heart beats from anticipation. However, even with all that adrenaline coursing through me, these lights in their soft, orange warmth still seem to wrap me in a blanket of relaxation on show nights. Sometimes I’ve even found myself getting sleepy with all that going, which just goes to shower the power of lights and how they can evoke real palpable feelings in your body based on their qualities.

Lighting Observation #9

  1. 04/04/2026 4pm at chess the musical
  2. There’s a large square glowing white surrounding the cast as the climax rises and they’re all bathed in various whites and greens. The thing I notice that blows my socks off is the square white light that the two players are standing in.
  3. There’s a lot happening at this time but it genuinely shocks me to my core looking at the white lights, perfectly shuttered to make a square on the ground that envelops the chess players. The whole show I’ve been craving some physical imagery of the chess board or at least a checkered pattern of some kind so the fact that they saved the square frame coming all the way down and the square lights until the final climax shook me to my core. It’s such a small detail but it feels similar to the color starvation we spoke about in class, how being deprived of something makes it’s impact so much more important.

Photo Observation #8

S4 LED S2 Lustr Direct @Full

Rosco R063 Pale Blue

I don’t think my lighting key changed much, the angle had to be slightly adjusted but I believe it’s close enough. The gap between the light on the wall and floor tripped me up but i believe with a more oval shaped spot and another place to put the light between the center and the middle right hanging position I could probably get closer.

9th Lighting Observation – KS:

  1. 04/05/2026 – 8:15pm – My dorm room in Constitution Hall
  2. The light I am looking at is coming from the clock that I have in my dorm room. It emits a bluish-white colored light from the numbers specifically. It is a digital clock. The light does not shine far, but does allow the time to be seen from far away.
  3. The color and look of the light gives off a “analytical” and “unemotional” feeling. A piece of technology that actually feels technological. I look at the light and think time. Not any other feeling comes to be because of how it glows.

8th Photo Observation – Light Lab + Photo – KS:

  1. FROM 4/3
  2. NEW
  3. My lighting key did change. Multiple more light sources were necessary to replicate the advertisements lighting than what I previously thought.
  4. Use your your Lighting key from 4/3 photo and recreate a representation of the lighting in the Virtual Light lab. Upload a screen shot of the lighting. Include the original photo and Lighting Key. Indicate if your Lighting Key changed. Include in your post a list of the lights you used, the gels and intensities.

Lighting Observation #8

  1. Looking out my bedroom window, April 3rd 11:15 pm
  2. Outside, the moon is dim, so most of the light I can see is the porch light and second story bedroom light from the house around the corner. The porch light is a cold wash, which is overlooked by the warm glow of the bedroom.
  3. The mood is comforting, like a haven in the dark night. The upstairs room exudes a welcoming energy into the cold outdoors, which can view the outside, but directly contrasts it.

Lighting Observation #8

1)  3/9/24 – outside Hauser Hall

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Sunlight streams through layers of leaves, the dappled light shines on a Hof-cat taking a peaceful nap below the branches. The light makes the solid colored cat look speckled.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The light gently warms the dark brown cat, who is taking a nap beneath the shade given from the tree. Not all the light is stopped from landing on the sleepy subject. The light is warm and makes it look like a gobo was used to build the perfect atmosphere for the little guy.
