Photo Observation #8

My key has changed, I added a light, changed the angles, and changed some of the gels. All of these lights are at full except for the front fill light, which is at 75% with a GR371 gel . Two of the lights from behind have GR21 gels, and the one furthest stage left has a GR363 gel to add that greenish-yellow to the light from the projector. I think the only thing I’m missing from this is besides Nicole Kidman is being able to see the beams directly shining at the camera.

Photo Observation + Light Lab

The first two images are my recreation in the light lab and updated lighting key. My lighting key drastically changed as I realized that there were light coming from the same areas, but with different beams, intensity, and from slightly different angles to create the image. In addition, a challenge was the shadows in the original image, as I realized my photo was heavily photoshopped. With that in mind, I replicated my lights to my best ability, as well as incorporated cyc lights for more light in the overall image.

Light Lab:

My Lighting key changed; I flattened the angle of the light coming from SL and added cyc lights.

And this is just for fun:

Photo Observation #8

First two are the recreation. I changed some of the angles in my lighting key and added a fourth light to help with the fill. I think I may need more fill but I am struggling to tell if the light on Pringle-Man’s face is reflected or if it is it’s own light.

8th Photo Theme: Advertisement/Desire Light Lab – Mia Gozinsky

My lighting key this time changed a lot more than the first time because I was able to get a better understanding of where the shadows from the light were coming from in each direction of it hitting onto the pig, which was a big concern of mine. In the picture I used for lights 1 and 2, I used G872-Opera White, and for 3 and 4, I used natural light, so no gels were used, and all were at Full to really capture the shadows.

Photo Observation #8

My lighting key has changed a bunch from last week. There are a lot more lights in my new lighting key as it took multiple lights being hung and angled from all over to get the brightness of the projector from behind Nicole Kidman. There are now multiple lights with the same color to getting the levels and amounts of color in the og image correct. The biggest issue I had when making the moment in the light lab, was the reflection of the lights on the cyc in the background.

Photo Observation #8

I had a hard time with this because I couldn’t fully tell where each source of light was coming from. I was happy that I created the blue overtones of the picture because that was a big goal of mine. However, I really wanted to nail the bright highlight that comes down the center of his face particularly on his nose. I couldn’t figure out how to get the beam narrow enough to hit the right side of his face much less, but I’m very happy with the placing that I managed to get and how the little pool of light still reflects of the model’s chest like in the real advertisement.

Photo Observation #8

My lighting key changed a lot because I paid more attention to the lights that were in the picture, not just the overall lighting each light created. There were a lot of different colors. It was hard to figure out the brightness of the light and how to plot the cyc lights. There were more lights in the photo than I originally thought.

Lighting Moment #9

  1. Wednesday April 8th, 16:30pm – Walking back from the Stu to my dorm
  2. The sun had a warm, golden glow and it there were lots of shadows because of how late in the day it was. The sun gave off a warm but cool color at the same time.
  3. The weird thing that this lighting did to the atmosphere was that it felt like fall. It didn’t feel like spring it felt like I time travelled back to fall. The sunlight that looked so warm almost looked too warm which is what happens during fall, and the shadows it was casting felt like too many for how late the sun is supposed to set. It was strange lighting that would be normal in another season.
