  1. March 8 – 6:59pm – East Meadow, Taco Bell parking lot
  2. Theme – Spring
  3. This photo much like many other sunset photos I have in my camera roll scream Spring to me. When I think of Spring lighting, I think soft, beautiful, delicate colors that tell me its nice and gently warm outside. A pink setting sky demonstrates this perfectly for me. Not only that, Jackson’s willingness to take in the beautifully lit last lights of the sun on the world make this picture lend itself to the energy of spring. Any picture from this hour would have worked. The first warm day of 2026, spring is coming, and the pink sun is announcing it kindly and sweetly.

Lighting Observation #5

  1. 3/12 5pm in the bathroom in Hager Hall
  2. A large window, waist-high to ceiling length, with frosted glass and a sign that says “please do not open window thank you”. It being the only light in the room, illuminates the two bathrooms stalls but not the sink or the doorway.
  3. On a day that goes from just cloudy to flurries, the sunlight being brought through the window is not all that warm. The entire room feels like it has a gray wash over it that does nothing exceptional for the already white and cream colored bathroom. It makes the room feel gloomy and quiet, despite the loud upbeat music in my ears. Looking around, it’s calm yet lonesome.

6th Photo Observation

  1. March 17, 2024 – 9:43 am – Ft. Lauderdale, FL
  2. Theme – Spring
  3. I took this photo during Spring Break my sophomore year on a trip to Florida. The group of friends on the trip and I had just made breakfast and had bought some fresh flowers for the kitchen the night before. The freshly made pancakes with the flowers looked very aesthetically pleasing. The lighting was in contrast, as the sunlight through the windows was pretty cool-toned due to the clouds and window tint, while the artificial light shining on the flowers was very warm-toned and yellow.

Lighting Observation #6

  1. March 13th – 5:24pm – Student Center
  2. The light shines off of the laptop onto Laney’s face. It creates a light blue glow on her face.
  3. This light creates a feeling of energy and focus that I don’t often see elsewhere. Watching a student such as Laney lock in to her laptop as she chips away at her academics is inspiring. This mood is only heightened by the blue light cascading onto her focused expression as it seems to coerce her further into completing her tasks. The paleness and emptiness of the light emphasizes its digital source and makes it clear that work is being done. There is no leisure found in this activity or this cold light, only dedication and determination.

6th Lighting Observation – Mia Gozinsky

  1. March 12th, 2026 – 5:21 Pm – Emily Lowe Drounge
  2. Another gloomy day on campus with the rain/snow coming down, putting a silence over the drounge with some kind of drousyness (which hit me as well), but the light from the lamp on the desk was very comforting and relaxing in the moment and made the room feel less cold then it did outside.
  3. The mood lighting was the small lamp on the table that made the room feel comfortable to be in and it made the room feel brighter in a way which was very relaxing to be in.

Photo Observation 5 – Stanley Morgan

1) September 14th, 2024, Salem, MA

2) Theme: Single Source Artificial Light

3) The light hits the sculpture/figure from below, establishing and exemplifying the harsh and unearthly feature’s on the face. This was taken in a monster museum, in which the goal was to make one feel frightened. The lighting was very carefully meant to make the creature look intimidating and unnatural as possible, hence the bottom light.

Photo Observation #5

2)This is a photo that someone took of me on halloween this year on my stoop

3) Single source lighting

4) This photo only lights me over the top of my head and paints me in silhouette. I was dressed as a vampire and I think this photo fits perfectly  on that costume because I am avoiding the light entirely (and also standing outside a door) in a way that makes me look spooky. I love the way that the light reflects off the house to add a lot of light to the image, but that light remains contained to above my head, rather than flooding the whole space and lighting me.

Photo Observation #5

  1. April 23, 2024, 10:51 AM – My high school theater
  2. Theme — Single Source Artificial Light
  3. This is a picture from when we were designing the light for Shrek: The Musical my senior year. We were experimenting using green light to make Fiona look like an ogre instead of using make up for one of the numbers. I like how in this photo you can see some of the green beam of light against the rest of the stage due to how dark it is.

Photo Observation #5

1. December 30th 2024, 11:51pm, my desk in my room

2. Single Source Artificial Light

3. For Chanukah I got one of those DIY book nook house thingies. I built it in one night and I really liked the way the light in it looked on my desk. Within the book there is so much going on and it’s so cluttered and I love it. It makes it feel so real.
