Lighting Observation

WHEN? February 16th, 8:00pm

WHERE? My living room

OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: A lamp in my living room

SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The warm light leaks through the ivory shade into a darkened room, dimly illuminating the space. Circles of light and shadow, reshaped by the lampshade over top, are now projected onto the walls in the corner of the room where the little lamp sits.

THEME: Romance

DSCRIPTION: Under a tree there is a bench, illuminated in the dark night by warm orbs of light that seemingly float above. How many lives must be shared sitting side by side on this little bench.

Photo Observation- Romance

Photo Taken Feb 15th ~12am

3) THEME: Romance

4) DESCRIPTION: This photo was taken with the thought of laying under the stars. Since it is too cold outside, cloudy, and there is too much light pollution, These LED lights combined with the tapestry give me a feeling of romance and love because of the soft colors mixed with the roses and hearts on the tapestry

Lighting Observation

2) ATTRIBUTES: Photo is an “off-guard” taken by my roommate in our dorm room.

3) THEME: Romance

4) DESCRIPTION: The lens flare on the photo creates a rainbow over a portion of the photo. The rainbow is commonly used as a symbol for “love for all” and particularly represents love in the LGBTQ+ community. The white light shining in through the window encapsulates me in the photo, similar to how romances overtakes mine and many others lives.

Photo Assignment- Romance

1) Photo was taken by me. It is inside of the Birdland Jazz Club in NYC on March 26th, 2019.

2) THEME: Romance

3) DESCRIPTION: There is nothing more romantic than jazz– except maybe this lighting. The candlelight illuminates tabletops filled with happy eaters and listeners, allowing the music to fill the rest of the room. It’s light reflects of each menu and glass, naturally shimmering the atmosphere. The red curtains glow “Birdland,” leaving the font’s surrounding black. The brightest light shines on the stage, streaking the photo with a flash of light.

THEME: Romance

DESCRIPTION: The room is evenly washed with the warm glow of candlelight. The flames illuminate the wax that it sits in and gives brightness to the deep red of the wine. The reflections in the table and the window make the room feel larger and all the more rosey.

Photo Observation- Romance

2) Attribute the Photo, tell us where it came from.

This is a photo I took of my friend Angela on January 3rd of 2020. It had been raining while we were walking around so we decided to sit in this coffee shop to dry off and warm up.

3) THEME: Romance

4) DESCRIPTION:

Romance is not always some grand gesture. It is found in the bright overcast skies dripping rain that causes you to duck into a cozy coffee shop. Dimly lit with softly glowing bulbs illuminating one another’s smiles. The wood and brick contrasting with the white light pouring in through the windows and door. But your focus remains on the way they sip their coffee, dry their hair, or listen to your stories. Maybe a dark coffee shop is where the brightest of inner light can be found.

Light Observation

1) 2/11/21, Evening close to sunset, in my front yard.

2) I was looking at the roof of my house. Directly above windows, there were sharp long icicles hanging from the room, collaborating with the sunset.

3)I’ve seen icicles before, once that hang, once that falls. Yet I have never seen the capturing essence the icicles can capture from any light. And in my sense, the sunset. At first, the icicles are scary and sharp, but with the light, I see a new perspective of the yellowish pink reflection that creates a sculpture below the roof. Water apparently holds memory, and the color the ice sculpture capture created a feeling of warmth beneath the cold. A memory that I’ll naturally reflect from the water and light. The light made the difference in my internal feeling of icicles.
