Lighting Observation

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: February 7th, 2020: My Bedroom Desk around noon

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Bright sunlight reflecting off the snow outside the window.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The bright warm light spanned across my desk as I wrote notes during class. It came through the slanted window blinds and illuminated the notebook paper and the back of my hands. It brought comfort and curiosity, I lifted my hand to inspect the outline of my fingers within the light.

Lighting Observation- 2/12/2021

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: 2/10/21- 5:30 pm- My dorm room (3rd floor of Vander Poel Hall)

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The sun was in the middle of setting and reflecting off the tower across from my building.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: As the sun slips further and further below the trees, its reflection follows the slow pace. The vibrant orange tones light everything in their path, creating an aura of warmth across the snowy grounds. The clean snow sits like pools on the grass and the sun’s path spills into the collected flurries with a growing crescendo.

Light Observation

  1. WHEN/WHERE: February 7th, 2021; 5:13 pm; outside of Dutch Treats
  2. Facing West, the clouds have cleared just enough to finally see a bit of the sky and the sunset. The trees are covered in snow and everything is bright.
  3. Within 10 minutes, the sky went from being completely white to having patches of blue, allowing the sun to finally shine through. The world turned into a winter wonderland as the pink and orange light peeked out from behind the snow-covered trees. Everything was evenly washed with brightness-not a single shadow in sight.

Lighting Observation

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: February 11th 2021 at 7:48AM. At my desk in my dorm room.

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The light coming from my LED desk lamp. The lamp provides a powerful ring of white LED light instead of a soft beam of light common with traditional desk lamps.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The beaming LED light is intense and unforgiving. The artificial bright light illuminates my desk and casts harsh shadows on my stationary items. At times the light is sickening; almost “too clean.” The lighting makes me feel extremely alert and awake.

Photo Observation 1

This photo was taken by me on July 6th, 2018 at 7:15pm

Theme: Sunrise/Sunset

This picture shows the sun setting behind a shore line. The water reflects the sky and shows a streak of light from the sun. Instead of the usual orange from a sunset, the setting sun creates a yellow horizon line.

Light Observation

  1. February 11th, 8am, Hempstead NY
  2. The light is the sun coming through my bedroom window, but the window has a translucent curtain.
  3. Awoken by the light of day, I can see the strong sun’s harshness muffled by the presence of my light blue curtain. Protecting me from the rays and softening the start of my day.

Photo Observation

-This photo was taken by me in the middle of a field on Hofstra campus taken September 20th at 6:50pm

-Theme: Sunrise/Sunset

-As the sun sets, a pinkish hue creeps up through the sky. Bleeding into a dainty orange and yellow until finally dispersing into soft blue that will soon become dark night. The colors are gentle yet expansive, creating calmness as the day ends and leading with hope into tomorrow.

Photo Observation

  1. Attribution: Photo by me. Location: Dana point beach, Orange County California. This is a sunset. Unfortunately, I can never wake up early enough for sunrise.

    3) THEME: Sunset/ Sunrise

    4) DESCRIPTION: After a hike through the caves of the Dana Point beach, I turn my head and see the most rewarding sunset. As I’m trudging through the mud, I begin to realize the beauty and the contrast between the dark mud and the sunset. Without the dark, maybe this sunset wouldn’t be as vibrant? Maybe the orange peel and the pink fluff wouldn’t collaborate with the dim blue sky and rocky dark mud? I think the sunset wouldn’t make it whole without all the attributes collected.  It was a hike to remember and a sunset to reflect.

Photo Observation

2. I took this photo in May when I was in Maine.

3. This is a sunset.

4. This was the grande finale of the sunset. The brightest part of the sun is a tangy yellow. The orange light dusts the clouds like cotton candy turning them pink. The sky remains a paling a blue peaking through the streaks of pink. The marshes reflect the orange and pink back up to the sky, framing in a grey beach house.

Photo Observation

2) ATTRIBUTION: This photo was taken by me in my room on the 12th floor of my residence hall. It was taken on January 20th 2021 at 4:58PM.

3) THEME: Sunrise/Sunset

4) DESCRIPTION: This photo showcases a classic Long Island sunset. The sun is positioned in the middle of the photo and is the focal point of the photo. Surrounding the sun is a circle of bright yellow light. The intensity of the sun causes a light orange lens flare. The sky is a variety of different colors including yellow, orange, green and blue. These colors all work in harmony with one another. The colors are extremely intense near the sun and become less-saturated the farther they move away from the sun. The light from the sun illuminates portions of the clouds, making them appear pink and offering some contrast. The sunset scene is reflected in the windows of the residence hall pictured.
