Advertisement/Desire lighting recreation in light lab

I had a very hard time trying to recreate this picture in the light lab, due to the fact that, for some reason, I couldn’t find other objects and I couldn’t move the sphere or pyramid to line up where the cup and bottle were in the picture. It was also difficult for me, since the person is not see through, so I tried to recreate the shadows instead. I used three lights, all on the back left side (stage right), one in the top corner, one directly underneath it, and one at about the shoulder height of the person. one of lights has a Rosco Roscolux R055 Lilac gel, just so it appears more like sunlight. The other two lights have L201 Full CT Blue gels in them, since the sunlight in the picture is very cool.

1. 4/4/2025, Blackbox dressing room

2. The lights on the mirrors in the dressing room.

3. The lights in this room are very yellow, they’re almost orange. I am not a fan of them as they expose a lot of my imperfections in my face. It’s like this light highlights the acne and scars on my face which I hate. They are meant to make the costumes look better but since I am not wearing makeup it makes me look worse! I often find myself turning the light off as it irritates me.

This is an advertisement for the television show law and order. The dark background is an attempt to keep the audiences attention on the main spotlight. There’s a man that looks to be getting interrogated symbolizing intensity. The creator wants the audience to know this show is about serious matters. The light is coming from middle and it’s white to show the face of the person getting interrogated. They want the audience to focus on the fear in his face.

  1. Light Lab
  2. Advertisement recreated in Light Lab
  3. To recreate the lighting in the Sprite Advertisement I chose, I utilized three top lights with the one directly above being at full light, and the two that were placed more downstage and upstage at 25%. Unfortunately, the Light Lab does not let you place any lights on the floor in front or behind the object, which is what was utilized in the real advertisement. As a result, I had to adjust and instead opted for top light in order to get a similar effect. That in turn affected my lighting key, so I made a new one.

19:15 my room

the only light is from my laptop

as I lay in my bed writing this, with the only light in my room being from my laptop, I can feel the sleep washing over me, exhausted mentally from life and its problems. wanting some form of energy, I may crack open a Diet Coke (2nd or 3rd one today), or I may go waste some money for a tiny bit of dopamine.

Lighting Observation #9

  1. Sunday, April 6th 2025 at 8:42PM–bedroom of college house.
  2. Our view from inside my bedroom indicates that everything outside is pitch black, despite a few streetlights that lighten the effect. Inside, strip LED lights are on; they border the top edges where the vertical walls and ceiling meet, and have been set to a warm orange. A computer screen is out, the brightness set to its maximum while featuring the SIMS 4 video game–a background that transitions from blue to green can be seen.
  3. Pitch black nightfall is harsh and unforgiving, turning the small bedroom into a little cozy hovel for their inhabitants to survive in. The tender and inviting tangerine glow of the LED bulbs reminds them of their safety from these external forces, and nonetheless encourages them to take further refuge in their game, the SIMS 4. The brilliance of their computer screen is almost blinding in comparison to the otherwise soothing orange haze. In its sweeping blue to green ombre, the game’s background draws them closer to the reality that awaits them external to their little home–it overwhelms the senses and  questions the security they believed they always had.

Lighting Observation #8

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: 4/2/2025, my house

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: the kitchen light that flickers in my college house.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: There’s one light in my college house’s kitchen that flickers every once and a while. It’s late at night and the light flickers and sighs, causing shadows to grow and shrink at its command. It happens so frequently now that I don’t usually notice it, but when I do, it brings an uneasy feeling to the place I call home.

Lighting Observation #8

  1. April 4th, 2025 – 8:00pm – Helene Fortunoff Theater
  2. The lights in the Helene Fortunoff Theater shining onto my friend Maddie during her Cello Performance
  3. A soft hush fell over the Helene Fortunoff Theater as the lights slowly rose—white beams cascading from above, the side, and the front—until they landed in full focus on Maddie. Her long, flowing purple dress shimmered under the lights. The way the light wrapped around her, highlighting her and the cello beside her, made the moment feel almost dreamlike—like time had paused just to honor her presence and her music!

Lighting Observation #8

1.) April 4th, 2025 – 6:24 pm – Hofstra Campus

2.) The light that was produced from the clouds covering the sun, as it hit the newly-grown, green grass.

3.) Walking across campus, I was left with a strange, unsettling feeling. It felt like it should’ve been a very happy day. It was bright enough out, and it was one of the first warm days of the year, but something was off. The blanket of clouds covering the sun made the light shining down feel muted. As if on the brink of something about to happen, but not quite getting there. It felt very still. The green of the freshly grown grass was strangely vibrant, somehow more so than when the sun is beaming down with no clouds in sight. These rich colors under an unusually cool light from the sun made me feel uneasy, causing me to increase my pace along the path.

Lighting Observation #8

1)April 4th, Student Center, 7:02pm

2)The sushi sign on the ceiling of the sushi place

3)I was sitting across from the sushi place in the student center trying to catch up on some assignments and as I was daydreaming and not really paying attention to anything in particular I noticed that there is a sign that says ‘SUSHI’ not only on the side of the sushi place but on the ceiling as well. I hadn’t really taken notice of it before, what made it stand out was that it was backlit, and where the light ends it was surrounded by shadow, likely due to how close to the wall/ceiling the letters are mounted. I thought the effect that it had was cool and it really made it stand out
