Lighting Observation #5

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: Late February, Studio A, 8 PM

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: We are in the huge film studio for my advanced cinematography class. We are watching films on the proscenium via a giant 4k projector. Suddenly the movie cuts out and there is a single overhead reflected film light washing down on the students and I.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: When the film cuts we are doused in yellow soft light. The cut off is strong and looking around we are separated from our background which is in pure darkness. We look like some surreal appointed council that would determine someones fate if they died too early. You couldn’t help feel judged.

Lighting Observation

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: 2/2/20 11:30 pm Hauge Suite Lounge

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Yellow light coming from the lamp instead of the over having lights.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The lighting was a warm yellow light the spilled into the room, and a few friends and I were reading a play for one of our classes. The light seemed to add to the world of the play that we were there creating for the lines at that moment. It was fun to not only have experience with lighting but in the sense of theater and storytelling

Photo Observation

Source: My photo

Theme: Night Life

Description: I took this photo around 1 AM as I was arriving home. We have one light that we keep on to light the walkway and steps up to our door when not everyone is home yet. The white light is harsh to look at directly, but the way it lights the area gives me a warm feeling, espeicially when I’m returning home at unfortunate hour. It does more than just make the area visible, it’s what first makes me feel like I’m home.

Lighting Observation #5

1. DATE/TIME/LOCATION

02/28/20, outside the 13th floor of Enterprise, 6:00 AM

2. OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION:

The sunrise was a brilliant blue, with yellow at the bottom of the horizon. The two blended into a very pretty green color, yet the clouds in the sky appeared almost lavender.

3. SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION

The sunrise took me by surprise. I was with a few friends and the colors fading into the sky before reaching such beautiful, brilliant hues was mesmerizing to watch.

Photo Observation

2) My photo, February 15th

3) THEME: Night Life

4) DESCRIPTION: This photo was taken of me and my friend in the very colorfully lit basement at a party. The party was celebrating valentine’s day, hence the pinks and purples that were cascading around the room. The photo is blurry and chaotic, an accurate reflection of that night, but the pink lighting is bouncing off of our smiling faces; capturing the joy of having fun with friends.

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The light outside of one of my sorority sister’s house gleamed reflecting on the parked cars in the driveway.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The light gave just enough light to see my sorority sisters through the glass on the door. I saw them enjoying themselves, laughing and dancing. I couldn’t wait to get inside and have fun with them.

Photo Observation #5

1.) July 4th 2019, Pennsylvania

2.) Night Life

3.)The two separate light sources are intensely bright but only give a subtle moody highlight to the edges of the objects around it. This night all my study abroad friends had reunited for a weekend. The composition and light in this image captures the nostalgia we were all sharing perfectly.
