Light Observation 2

Thursday, February 8, 2019 – The clock just outside of the student center on north side
The mist in the air allowed for the light to spread more easily throughout the sky, so the light of the lampposts was more prominent than usual.
It felt like I was Lucy from The Chronicles of Narnia when she first say the lamppost through the wardrobe. It was a surreal moment, where I didn’t quite comprehend what I was looking at, but I knew immediately that it was a beautiful moment that I may not get to experience again. The glow of the lampposts outlining the edges of the trees seemed like an alien encounter, while the glow of the clock seemed almost like the repeating imagery within some movies of the clock that slowly ticks down to the characters doom. It was illuminated to the point wherein it became somewhat difficult to discern the edge of the actually metal structure from the trees, because of how brightly the face shined.

Photo Observation 2

December 2016, The Cathedral of the Incarnation, taken by myself
Theme: Shadows
I recall first walking up to the cathedral, and I was instantly taken in by the architecture of the building. The steeples, multitude of archways, and the sloped rooftops immediately drew me in to it’s beauty. Looking at in under the moonlight further accentuated this infatuation for me, as the shadows help to create this gorgeous Gothic horror ambiance that really works well with the aesthetic of the building. The shadows subtly highlight the crevices and nooks present throughout the cathedral, that may not necessarily be noticed in the daylight quite as easily. Especially with the moon shining down upon it, it creates this mystic, creepy vibe that I adore.

Lighting Observation #2

Date, time, location: Tuesday, 9:30pm, walking by the fields to Colonial Square

Objective Description: Walking on the sidewalk, street lamps turned on to my left along the road.

Subjective Description: A foggy mist enveloped me as streaks of street light peered through the negative space created by the barren trees.

Light Observation #2

  1. 10:16pm 2/7/19 on the quad at Hofstra.
  2. I was walking to the parking lot after a long day of classes. As I looked up from my phone I saw a tall lamp post in the center of the quad. The lights seemed exceptionally bright against the dark sky.
  3. You can always find a light when faced with darkness.

Photo Observation #2

Attribute: Taken by me on my Galaxy S8
Theme: Shadows
Description: I took this photo in the fall around 3pm in Flushing, Queens. The way the sun was shining through the fencing of the overpass created very interesting shadows. The shadows reflected the curve of the bars on the overpass creating a grid like image on the floor.

Photo Observation #2

  1. I took this photo at the Brooklyn Museum in 2016.
  2. Theme: Shadow
  3. Description: This installation artwork is called The Dinner Party by Judy Chicago. The triangular table is lit up by a triangular composition of lights above it, and the middle area confined within the three sides of the table is left in a shadow. The giant shadow has many shades towards the center of the triangle, and those names in the darkest part of the shadow on the floor become invisible as if they are absorbed by a huge black empty hole. Although they can’t be seen, we can still imagine how many of them are there in the darkness. As if those brave women who sacrificed their lives to the feminist movement are protected by the brightness around the table which stands for those visible victories in the history of feminism.

Light Observation #2

1: February 5th, 2019 6:36am in my Bedroom

2: Objective Description: I had just woken up at 6:30 and had made my ice coffee. I was sitting in my bedroom as the sun was rising and watched the shadows change through the binds. I had music playing and was rolling out my yoga mat

3: Subjective Description: The changing of shadows as the time passed to some would be like watching pain dry. However, for me it was a beautiful way to wake up in the morning. I had my music going and it reminded me to be thankful to be able to wake up in the morning. To be thankful to do my yoga, drink my coffee, and take a cold shower with the shadows of the sun saying good morning.

Photo Observation #2

1: Source: Taken by Lauren Nilson on a Rebel T6

Model: Me

2: Natural Lighting creating Shadows

3: The Shadows casted in this photograph show the definition and details in the back. It defines the shoulder blades and the vertebrae. The shadows play a huge part in photography and this photo shows many shadows. This was taken for my friends school project and she had asked me to model. We had traveled through the city to get the perfect picture however, this image turned out to be one of the most intimate and detailed. The shadow casted gives the sense of venerability and uncertainty.

Lighting Observation 2

2/7/19; 1:30 AM; my bedroom

Objective: The room was completely dark and the window shades were drawn down. However the shades do not cover the windows edges which create almost a halo effect around the window shade.

Subjective: The halo effect on the blind was a cool, moonlight glow that made the rest of the shade completely invisible in dark. It almost looked liked a completely dark opening/passage to another hallway or room.
