Romantic Photo

photo from pinterest

An intimate moment emphasized by the darker surrounding building contrasting the warm lighting of the space. The soft silhouettes of the couple within the cozy space adds a feeling of comfort to the glimpse of the candid sliver of life. The distance of the veiwer from the space makes it feels like we’re seeing a moment of private life while separating the veiwer from interrupting their moment.

Romance Lighting Photo

Photo from vecteezy.com.

This photo shows a romantic dinner setting, complete with candles, fairy lights, and flowers, all next to a window with a scenic view. I find this lighting romantic because the sun is setting, giving the sky many soft colors. There is no harsh overhead lighting, rather the indoor setting is lit by the warm candles and fairy lights. The shadows the light casts on the material of the table cloth and chairs also make the scene very cozy and welcoming.

Light Observation 2/9

Objective: I was sitting in class on 2/8 while we were talking about shadows. You had mentioned that the window light created shadows on the right sides of our faces and it made me curious about how the window light would create shadows on my hand. I found myself moving my hand up and down and rotating it finding how the shadows moved accordingly on the left side of my hand.

Subjective: Something as simple as a window with beaming light next to my right shoulder created such a sense of wonder inside me. I felt silly, but I didn’t care because I was so intrigued about the newfound shadows I was noticing on my body. Like you said before, “go out and be excited about every floating element of time!”

Hofstra Fitness Center Weight Room 5:16 PM Friday Feb 9th

Objective: There are fluorescent lights all over the gym, so it is very bright. The lights are white, and it is overall pretty evenly lit. However, there a lot of windows, and the sun was beginning to set. So, along with the fluorescent lights from above, there was a beam of yellow light coming from the windows. It was quite blinding and uncomfortable to look at from certain angles, but it created shadows with some of the gym equipment.

Subjective: The moment felt like nature trying to break through something artificial. Although the room is surrounded by unpleasant “doctor’s office” type lights, there is this bright ray coming from outside, trying to break into the room and cut through the artificial lighting.

Lighting Observation 2/9

Friday 2/3/24 – 4:00 PM – Lowe 106

Objective: The lights were off in the room. The light from the sun shined in through the blinds and landed on the faces of two of my classmates. The lines of light created a horizontal pattern on their faces. the light was a bright golden yellowy color. It was so intense that the reflection of the light off of their faces illuminated the room more than anything else

Subjective: The way the golden light that radiated off of their faces had an elegant, almost heavenly feel. Because the light was so strong it looked as if they were glowing. It was so intense that the reflection of the light off of their faces seemed to illuminate the room more than anything else. The contrast though of the lines of shadows added an element of mystery to the image.

Lighting Observation 2/9

Friday 2/9, 4:10 pm, looking outside from my living room.

Objective description: The sun is beginning to set, casting a soft orange light on the houses and cars outside my house. The sun is reflecting off of the cars, creating a glare that shines into my window. The shadows from the trees are cast onto the sidewalk.

Subjective description: The sunset creates a very warm, soft energy in my house, and it makes me feel relaxed. It feels reminiscent of spring and warmer temperatures.

Lighting Observation – part one

2/8/2024 – 6:16 pm – Student Center

Objective: The LED lights hanging individually in circular lamps above the Brooklyn slice logo highlight the area of the bench-cushion tables.

Subjective: Each lamp all equally displays the same amount of light, not one differing from the other. However, this is not the most vital light in the room, making the area comfortable to the eye.

Lighting Observation 2/9/24

2/6/24 – 1:00 PM – Bits & Bytes

Objective Description: The sunlight was shining through a window with blinds, and the light coming through the route holes created little ovals of light on the table and chair next to the window.

Subjective Description: Each droplet of light projected a small moment of peace. They wouldn’t be there for long, but they shone brightly as the sun tried to pry its way into the room.
