Lighting Observation

2/16/24 – 9:05 AM – My house

Objective Description: The sun shining in through the window hit the prisms on the chandelier, and reflected rainbows on the wall behind it.

Subjective Description: The morning sun, in all its glory, comes through the open blinds. Little does it know that all its colors would soon be revealed when it shines through the hanging glass.

Light Observation 2/16

11:00 p.m.

Objective: As I was laying in bed, I set my phone down beside me and noticed the disco ball hanging on the wall to my right. On the floor below it, I have a sunset lamp shining upwards toward the corner of the two walls and ceiling. I strategically placed the disco ball here to reflect to faux sunset all over the room with small slivers of light.

Subjective: The orange and blue sunset lamp being reflected on to the surrounding walls around me feels intriguing and especially romantic with the candle also being lit. The mix of colors and low light ambience creates a calming tone in the room that is very relaxing.

Lighting Observation – part two

2/15/2024 – 10:53 pm – Lowe 216

Objective: The projector light shines on the screen, illuminating the classroom.

Subjective: The projector light against the screen is the only light shining in the room, making all the focus centralizing the movie onscreen.  Although it is a dimmer light, and since the movie’s colors are in a dark tone, the eyes make your body react in a sleeping motion.

Romance Lighting

This is a picture I took during the Fall Festival during the 2023-2024 Fall Semester. The lighting is very romantic, not just because my significant other is in the picture but because of the colors in the sky. The texture of the clouds also adds to the romantic atmosphere.

02/09 Light Observation

02/09/2024

While walking past Emily Lowe Hall just after sundown there was a street light shining brightly against bare tree branches.

The light was cast on only some of the branches, leaving the surrounding branches and trees in shadow and darkness. The lit branches casts shadows in different directions, in thin and unique shapes around it.

Romance Photo Theme

I found this photo on Pinterest and I really liked the way the light in the background doesn’t take over, but allows for the silhouette of both people to be very nicely emphasized. The shape of the window allows for a very specific area of focus, while still allowing for the overall scene to support the elegance and warmth of the scene.

2/15 Photo Observation

I chose this photo of mine for “romance” because it is a very special moment for me and my boyfriend. We had just finally seen each other after a trip I went on to Las Vegas. I love this photo because it is lit by the moon and reflections surrounding us, and even though you can’t see our faces, we are so happy. This was taken by my friend Juliana Amato, on my phone.

Photo Observation 2/15

The way the lights are draped from the tree creates beautiful natural variation causing the lights to have a kind of starry effect. I think the color of the lights is also nice and perfect for romance. They have a bright yellowy glow and with the dark of night all around they feel soft and pretty. They are a lovely combo of spectacle, beauty, and simplicity perfect for a summer night date.

Photo Observation 2/15

Photo from Pinterest

While there are no actual people in this photo, from the lighting alone you can tell that this dinner is a romantic occasion. The dim lighting and red sign lights are classic lighting choices used in romantic settings. The red color represents the feeling of love and romance, and the dim lighting shut outs the background of an environment and focuses just on the scene in the light. This makes romantic pictures and settings feel much more intimate.
