Lighting Observation

1) Hammer lab, Midnight, 3/9/21

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The light moment was in the hammer lab. A reflection from the windows of the office. The lights are tile square lights that repeat every other square, on the ceiling.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Humans can not visibly see light traveling. We can not see the wavelengths of energy or sound, But we can imagine it. I think I see the movement of the light multiplying down the reflection of the window because maybe I want to travel with it. The light resembles the irony of me sitting in the lab doing homework past my bedtime. The reflection of the ceiling block lights leaves me wondering, procrastinating, thinking of how far the light goes. Can my mind go that far? Can I go further into finishing my homework. I don’t think I know the answer to any of these questions, but I’ll just keep looking at the ceiling block lights searching for them.

Lighting Observation

DATE-TIME-LOCATION: 5:50 pm at my kitchen table in Uniondale on March 9th

OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The setting sun casting a shadow onto the kitchen table as I sat in my zoom class.

SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: I could not focus on what was happening in class, I stared at my housemate while she cooked dinner. The table was half-cast in the shade as I started to doze off. The world was telling me it was time to sleep.

Lighting Observation 3/12/2021

) DATE-TIME-LOCATION:3/11/2021- 12:16pm- NJ House’s Backyard

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The sun shines down on the still-frozen cover of water on the above-ground, teardrop pool in my backyard. The bright reflection is above the brown tarp that covers the rest of the water in the pool.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The Spring sun highlights Summer memories, reminding me of pool birthday parties and family barbeques. The glare traces a path for one to jump in the pool, if only it was not a sheet of ice. The sun brightens an area of childhood memories in my backyard and in my mind.

Lighting Observation

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: 3/6/21- 5:30 pm

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The sun came out at the end of the day while I was on the intramural fields with the frisbee team.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The sun pokes its head out to view the ground below but it is not noticed by the people facing away from the sun. As it pops out, it hits the back of their heads so that one person’s yellow shirt lights up and another’s hat shines under the light. A spotlight of sun coming to play.

Light Observation

    1. WHEN/WHERE: March 11, 2021; 3:48pm; Outside by Nassau/Suffolk
    2. OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: It’s slightly overcast outside, but you can still see the Sun through the clouds. It’s not too bright.
    3. SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The Sun’s blinding rays are dimmed with patchy clouds. Everything feels warm and serene with this even wash of sunlight and the light blue tint from the sky. The rays bounce off a bush with newly blossoming flowers that I hadn’t noticed before. Their yellow petals are a gentle reminder that winter is coming to an end.

Lighting Observation

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: March 11th 2021, 10:00PM, the Pride Den located on the bottom floor of the student center.

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The cylindrical light fixtures that hang from the ceiling of the Pride Den.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The light emanating from the cylindrical light fixtures is warm and bright. The excessive amount of light fixtures leave little room for shadows, creating a bright and welcoming place. Every fixture allows the perfect amount of light for studying, talking with friends, or even relaxing. The brightness of the lights encourages production and high energy.

Photo Observation

Attribution- This photo was taken by me in my room last night

Description- Frida Kahlo has always had statements to her portraits, but the single light source in my room, gave another essence to her loud work. The light begins to shed the shadow of the colorful things in my room, but makes the painting create the statement of the photo and the vibe of my room. The golden yellow light creates a new layer of color on top of the many colors surrounding the bulb.

Artificial Light Source

The streetlight only lights what is below. The dark sky remains a thick black while the stones glisten. The light shows a path that goes into darkness and it’s unclear where the next light will be.
