Photo Observation 5

This photo is of a Jack-o-Lantern that was carved around halloween

Theme : Single Light Source (Artificial)

Description : The light is inside of the pumpkin, creating a silhouette of the shape that was carved into it. It is dark and mysterious, and appears to show a creepy hunchback figure with dark intentions.

Photo Observation

This image is from Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812

3) THEME: Single Light Source (Artificial)

4) DESCRIPTION: As “snow” fell from the ceiling Natasha twirled in place lost in a daydream. Longing for her fiance in the moonlight she hugged herself. The blue illuminated her in the corner of the stage. She looks innocent and smitten beneath the soft blue keeping her cool amongst the vibrant scenery behind her.

Photo Assignment- Artificial Light Source

2) Attribute the Photo, tell us where it came from.

This is a photo I found on Google Images, there is no one to credit the photo with as following the link takes you to a website that is out of domain.

3) THEME: Artificial Light Source

4) DESCRIPTION:

On a dark night, perhaps with a certain chill in the air, the warm glow of the street lamp disrupts the blackness. The lamp illuminates the street as figures pass by. While the darkness is the night, the street lamps represent the possibility of adventure amidst the dim dusk.

Photo Observation: Artificial Light Source

1)

2) This photo was taken by me in a museum in California.

3) THEME: Single light source (artificial)

4) DESCRIPTION: The circular top, white light creates a heavenly ambience around the artifact. Worn by Tutankhamun, this treasure guarded him from evil. Buried with the Egyptian pharaoh, the lighting  expresses the collar’s divinity and the richness that came with Ancient Egypt. The light sprinkles through the gold, exaggerating the luster of a metal centuries old. It is up for display, just as it was on the shoulders of the pharaoh.

Photo Observation

2) ATTRIBUTES: This photo was taken by me on March 21st 2020 at 11:53PM. It was taken in my temporary dorm room in Nassau/Suffolk.

3) THEME: Single light source (artificial).

4) DESCRIPTION: This photo shows my dorm room illuminated by a single strand of yellow/white string lights. The darkness of my bed sheets paired with the warm glow of the string lights provides a sharp contrast. It captures the cool, calm feeling that spring nights bring. The bright, artificial lights illuminate the desk while keeping the bed relatively shadowed, furthering the natural separation of work and rest.

  2. THEME: Single Light Source (Artificial)
  3. DESCRIPTION: As the world outside grows darker, the piercing white light from my lamp becomes harsher and more intense. It bounces off the paper on my desk back towards me, reminding me that I have a long night ahead. The blackness of my room tries to consume me, with this lamp being my savior. The world wants to sleep, but this bright bulb leaves me restless.

Photo Observation

I took this photo in December 2018 in EPCOT

3) THEME: Nightlife

4) DESCRIPTION: Smoke filled the pitch-black air as the crowd looked out onto the lake, music filling their ears. The only lights around were the bright lamp posts. Almost as if they were a beacon for the crowd to come forward. Suddenly hues of pinks and purples burst through the smog and mingled in the air. All of the colors merging together created the perfect backdrop for the exploding fireworks giving off a warm spark every so often across the sky.

Light Observation 3/5/2021

FORMAT (Lighting Observations)
You should arrange your journal entries as follows:

1) 2/4/2021-11:23 pm- My desk in my room that is in the basement

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: As I sit at my desk, the bright, white light from my lamp shines on my face, overexposing the image portrayed through my laptop camera. The only other light in the room, because it is in the basement, is the dim ceiling light and the sliver of sunlight coming through the curtains. The only light directly on my was the lamp because it was pointed toward my homework.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: It is really shocking to not see something that you are expecting to see. I think a flash of light in terms of stage lighting can evoke a surprising reaction from an audience. It shows the power of lighting. You can totally erase a scene and block out an actors’ features. The weariness that comes from blankness is different from darkness. Both are necessary.

Light Observation

  1. WHEN/WHERE: March 3rd, 2:00 pm, my bedroom in Suffolk Hall
  2. OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: It is a clear day outside. The sun isn’t shining directly in so there is just enough light in my room so that we don’t need artificial light
  3. SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The bright blue sky smiles down on the world, sending waves of ocean inside my room. I am nearly drowning in shadow, but the sun is my life vest and keeps me from sinking into darkness. There is no need for more light, as the blue shadow is serene and reminds me of the gorgeous day we’re having.
