Photo Observation #1

I took this picture of my friends on my last week in Rhode Island, January 18th around 5:20pm.

Theme: Sunrise/Sunset

Description: This photo was captured on Narragansett Beach in Rhode Island. The moment captured depicts a moment of natural beauty while the mood of the picture is one of acceptance, some sadness but at the same time, calming. This photo is perfect for this weeks theme because the picture is captured right as the sun began to leave the sky. The beautifulness of the picture completely takes away from all the raw emotion I was feeling about leaving my childhood home behind forever

Photo Observation #1

I took this photo on the beach before work in Ocean City, New Jersey on July 12, 2019 at 5:27 AM
THEME: Sunrise/Sunset
DESCRIPTION: The orange light of the sun and the warm gradients of the sky transform how the beach typically looks. The sand (which during the day is a pale beige) is a deeper, cooler color. It looks cool to the touch. The ocean at the height of the day is blue, or greenish, depending, yet here it reflects golden and lilac hues. I’ve grown up here my whole life, so I’ve always taken the ocean for granted. It wasn’t until I went to school up here and was separated from the place that I loved so much that I really appreciated the beauty of my home. Sometimes, when I’m in my little ice cream stand where I work my summer job, I look out at the ocean and see the way the light sparkles off of it and I remember that I love my hometown, even if I moved away from it.

Lighting Observation #1

1) January 29-9:50 PM- My Bedroom

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The room was completely dark, save for a pink neon light that cast a room (already covered in an array of light pink decorations) in a warm, pink glow

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: I was showing an old friend my room, as they had not seen it this year. I figured they would appreciate the neon sign, and how “me” the pink girls girls girls was. When we turned the lights off, and I saw their face illuminated by the soft, pink lighting, I understood how it truly feels to be hopelessly infatuated with a moment in time. I wanted to photograph it, or paint it. It felt dark, yet, at the same time,  soft and wholly intimate.

Photo Observation 1

  1. Photo posted to Twitter by user @TonyClarkCP 12/13/2019 8:05 AM
  2. Sunrise/Sunset
  3. I used to spend a weekend at Cedar Point every year, but it’s been about five years since I was last able to hold that tradition. The sunrise/sunset theme immediately had me reminiscing on the days when I would get to the park at the crack of dawn to spend a full day of pure excitement and joy. I’ve seen this exact sunrise in person, and the reflection of the early morning sun off of the metal of the tracks of the rollercoaster, fittingly titled GateKeeper, reminds me of the warmth of the sun feeling wonderful amidst the shadowy coolness typical of an early morning on a shore. The blue sky is vast and bright, matching the morning and all the possiblities a day at the park holds.

Light Observation 1

  1. Date – Time – Location: Around 11:30 PM on January 30 in the upstairs hallway of the house near campus I live in
  2. Objective Decription – The hallway light was off, and as I came up the stairs into the hallway, the door to someone else’s room was just barely open, letting some of the light from her room into the hallway.
  3. Subjective Description – As I had been climbing the stairs to grab something from my room, I was prepared to turn the hallway light on. However, as I turned around and saw the thin strip of light coming through the door, I was relieved that the softer, dimmer light would be enough for me to see the hallway. The lamps my friend has in her room provide a much warmer glow in comparison to the harsh hallway light we have. To my relief, my eyes remained relaxed, never needing to make a quick adjustment to a shift in light, thanks to the door not being entirely closed and sharing the room’s light with the hallway.

Light Observation #1

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: I had my lighting “moment” walking back to Colonial Square West after class at around 4:15 on Wednesday January 28th, in the parking lot next to the field.

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The sky was a dull musky blue as the sun was beginning to set for the day. There were thick clouds in the sky that blocked the sun, creating a halo of light around them.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Tired from a long day of classes, I looked down at the cold ground, and saw my shadow cast in front of me as the setting sun followed me from behind. Overcome with a peter pan-like feeling, I was guided by my shadow as if it had a mind of its own. Suddenly, I turned around and was taken by the glowing white clouds as the sun peaked around them against a dull blue sky, when a feeling of youthful serenity came over me. Maybe unlike peter pan, I’ll be lucky enough to get my shadow to stick on.

Photo Observation #1

I captured this photo on my birthday January 22nd 2019 at 5:45pm in Epcot Disney World.

Theme: Sunrise/Sunset

Description: In context to the location that this photo was taken, this photo captures a moment of calm, simple, “natural” beauty within the active, exciting, and overwhelming world of Epcot. This photo fits this weeks theme, because the sunset lighting perfectly creates a sense of tranquility, hiding the chaos and reality of what is to be in Epcot at 5:45pm.

Light Observation

  1. DATE-TIME-LOCATION: January 30th, 2020 – 11:00pm – my dorm room.
  2. OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The soft white light from an oil diffuser brightened and dimmed the dark room. There is a change in the strength of the shadows against the wall and ceiling, widening and condensing.
  3. SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: My oil diffuser was brightening and dimming based on the speed of the diffuser and it felt calming to observe. The soft glow around the perimeter of the diffuser created a gentle ambiance for my dorm room, and made me feel more relaxed, which I appreciated.

Lighting Observation

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: Sunday, January 26th at 9:40 PM my dorm room

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The new LED strip lights, hun, up in my room casting on the toned blue walls in my dorm.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: As I plugged into the wall and watched them illuminate the room from the dark, I was surprised not to see the color I had selected. Due to the walls being tinted blue, it distorted the colors. As we pressed the smooth rotating button we watched as the colors changed and show new colors then the pure colors on the remote control

Photo Observation

1- This is a sunset photo I took on the docs right by my house in Ocean City New Jersey on November 15th 2019 at 5:36

2 – Sunrise/Sunset

3 – Looking at this picture, you can see as the water acts as a mirror reflecting what seems like almost a perfect replica of the sky above. The Rippling across the water shows just how to face the water goes. The red and yellow colors bring the idea of warmth to my mind even though I remember being cold when taking the picture. Also, I think the shadows that are cast from the cloud onto the water are beautiful.
