Cold Photo Lighting Observation

This is a photo I took 2 years ago in January on the ride from Staten Island to Long Island. The lighting is overall blue, which creates a feeling of being cold. Also, the silhouette of the tree without any leaves against the blue lighting really signifies the fact that it is winter. The clouds are a bit darker, and in all, you can feel the coldness from the picture.

02/16 Light Observation

The string lights that hang in the lounge in my dorm.

They cast a subtle but nice glow over the room, creating a very serene and comforting environment. They’re not so bright as to expose every inch of the room, but they do light up above the couch, which tends to be the heart of the room.

Cold Photo Theme

This picture was taken at sunset outside of C-Square a couple of days after our snow day. I really like the way the blue/ purple of the sky darken the silhouette of the bare trees, and how it makes the towers look much darker than they really are. The dark clouds looming in the corner also help to add to the mood of the photo.

Photo Observation 2/22

Picture taken by me

I took this picture while skiing at Mount Sunapee in New Hampshire. It is very obviously cold in this picture; my family went in the middle of January, and there was actually fresh snow on the ground, not just from the snow blowers. In particular, it was super fogged over and snowy that day, so the lighting was dark, which made the picture look even colder. Especially with the snow, fog, and the dark green trees, there are no warm tones at all, and I cand remember how cold this day was from looking at this picture.

Photo Observation 2/22

Photo taken by me

This photo was taken on the island Inisheer, one of the Aran Islands located off the coast of Ireland. This was actually the first day of true Irish weather while I was there, so it was chilly and windy. I think this photo represents cold lighting well because the sky and the ocean have the same gray-ish blue color, and there’s no sun visible. The ocean doesn’t look very welcoming, but rather cold and choppy.

Light Observation 2/16

2/16 – 10:30 pm – inside my room

Objective description: There is a little bit of warm white light coming from a standing lamp in the corner of the room. There are also purple light covering the whole room coming from strip LED lights on my walls. There is a small amount of flicking light coming from a lit candle.

Subjective description: I keep the overhead light turned off in my room and prefer to have a bunch of smaller lights on to make the atmosphere feel more inviting. Having a few different colors of light adds dimension to my room and adds a purple tint to the posters on my wall. I feel relaxed because the dimmer lights do not hurt my eyes like my big overhead light.

Lighting Observation

2/16/24 – 9:05 AM – My house

Objective Description: The sun shining in through the window hit the prisms on the chandelier, and reflected rainbows on the wall behind it.

Subjective Description: The morning sun, in all its glory, comes through the open blinds. Little does it know that all its colors would soon be revealed when it shines through the hanging glass.

Light Observation 2/16

Light Observation 2/16

11:00 p.m.

Objective: As I was laying in bed, I set my phone down beside me and noticed the disco ball hanging on the wall to my right. On the floor below it, I have a sunset lamp shining upwards toward the corner of the two walls and ceiling. I strategically placed the disco ball here to reflect to faux sunset all over the room with small slivers of light.

Subjective: The orange and blue sunset lamp being reflected on to the surrounding walls around me feels intriguing and especially romantic with the candle also being lit. The mix of colors and low light ambience creates a calming tone in the room that is very relaxing.

Lighting Observation – part two

2/15/2024 – 10:53 pm – Lowe 216

Objective: The projector light shines on the screen, illuminating the classroom.

Subjective: The projector light against the screen is the only light shining in the room, making all the focus centralizing the movie onscreen.  Although it is a dimmer light, and since the movie’s colors are in a dark tone, the eyes make your body react in a sleeping motion.

Romance Lighting

This is a picture I took during the Fall Festival during the 2023-2024 Fall Semester. The lighting is very romantic, not just because my significant other is in the picture but because of the colors in the sky. The texture of the clouds also adds to the romantic atmosphere.
