Romance

2) The Philadelphia Lantern festival 2018

3) THEME: Romance/ Romantic

4) DESCRIPTION: Thinking about the word romance, most people’s brains will go automatically to candlelights dinners and people kissing in the moonlight. Instantly my mind thinks of a time I was with my partner at this festival. watching the lights float into the air just makes my heart flutter

Photo Observation #2

Time/Place: Taken on my iPhone during a senior film shoot in a Brooklyn apartment, Friday February 7th, 3:30 PM

Theme: Shadow

Description: The set I was on this weekend heavily utilized practical lights, one of which was a small bedside lap with a unique pink plastic shade. The resulting light was one of enhanced warmth, imbuing the room with the coziness of a crackling fire. What affected me most was how the light struck the pillow next to it, emphasizing each fold and crease. To me, it became snow-covered mountain range lit by the deep orange of a setting sun.

Lighting Observation #2

1) Tuesday, February 4th. 10:00 PM.

2) On the second floor of Davison Hall, the overhead halogen lights share the space with the bright afternoon light shining through the ceiling-high windows. The cold fluorescent light of my afternoon class cuts into the warm light of the hallway, silhouetting a student’s figure standing in the doorway.

3) The morning sun I walked to campus under had now matured into a bright afternoon light. It’s supportive rays temporarily combat my already growing weariness before I begrudgingly retire into the sickly white-green light of Davison Hall. I ascend the stairs, the sunlight reaching through trees and windows to give me a final push I needed. Upon reaching the top of the stairs, I resentfully turn my back on the light and round the corner to find a silhouette cast upon the ground. It’s indistinct voice wafts through the doorway, adding to the mystery of what awaits me. I hope some rest.

Light Observation #2

  1. DATE-TIME-LOCATION: 2/6/2020, 5:43pm, Walking from Vander Poel towards the Student Center.
  2. OBJECTIVE OBSERVATION: The lamp post light was beaming against the concrete, casting a shadow as I passed it. The shadow increased its size and also created another shadow, but flipped. It continued to grow longer as I walked through the light.
  3. SUBJECTIVE OBSERVATION: The lamp post light created a unique design with the shadow my figure casted against the concrete. One shadow developed into two long, unusual shadows and looked really cool in the evening light.

(I thought this posted Thursday, but found it in my drafts. My apologies for the technical misstep.)

Lighting Observation #3

1- 7 Feb 2020, 3AM, my room

2- OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION- a dark room, with very bright streetlights streaming in through horizontal blinds.

3- SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION- This is a sight I see relatively often, as I often struggle to fall asleep at night. The campus is so bright and, while I appreciate the safety of everything, the light peering in through my window can be irritating. It feels sometimes as if I’m being mocked by fluorescent white streetlights for the simple crime of wanting a good night’s sleep. Once again, they watch me fail.

Photo Observation #2

2) I took this picture on October 3rd at 11 PM on the north side of campus.

3) THEME: Shadow

4) When I took this picture, I was on a walk in the rain with the girl I was seeing at the time. We both were talking about our appreciation for photography earlier and how we liked to stop to take pictures of things we would see cross our paths. When I saw the way the light was shining from behind the trees and the way the light and shadow fell, I had to stop both of us for a moment to appreciate how beautiful it was. There are other elements, such as the way the tiny water droplets reflected the light and shadow as well, that didn’t show that well in the picture, but it still looked stunning to me.
