Light Observation

  1. Date / Time / Location: March 28th, 9:35 pm, My bedroom
  2. Objective Description: I just recently adopted a baby gecko and moved him into his tank in my bedroom. Part of his little set-up consists of a blue heating lamp that hangs above the grated top of his enclosure. Although the light is not very bright, it provides an efficient amount of light to the gecko as well as the plants / caves / wood inside. However, there are still several dark spots for him to hide.
  3. Subjective Description: I was sad at first that he preferred to be alone and hide under his plants, but when he does come out into visibility his colors look amazing under the light. He is mixed colors of bright yellow and white with black spots. However under the light his sunshine / happy colors appear more warped and pastel. It’s also strange how the lamp is utilized for heat but the blue color creates a colder facade for the little space. I also like that the light allows me to see him without so much intensity that he feels like he has no privacy. The log and cave provided are quite dark once he enters them.

  1. DATE: 03/29/22
  2. TIME: 8:00 pm
  3. LOCATION: Picture of Cave in El Salvador
  4. OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: There is this beautiful beach back in my country called Playa “El Tunco” where we go with my family every year. I was looking at a picture of it and there is this cave that me and my siblings always go to and it was really nice to remember how the inside of the cave and being in the shade felt. From the angle that we were standing it seemed the light was coming from the front but it was actually coming from the left side.
  5. SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Being in the shade brought a feeling of calmness and peace. I also thought that it made everything that was outside the shade even brighter. Because of the angle of where we were standing it made it seem that the light was coming from the front (in relation to where we were standing) but instead it was coming from the left side. When you are in a darker space and looking to a place with more light the contrast makes everything that is bright even brighter and same goes to the dark side of it.

Photo Observation Coca Cola Ad

  1. DATE: 03/29/22
  2. TIME: 10:30 am
  3. LOCATION: Online Advertisement
  4. THEME: Coca Cola Ad.
  5. DESCRIPTION: The image was really hard to represent on the lab because of the way the light is displayed and where it is coming from, in this case from the very back. I took a really long time to see how I could make it work with the lights from the top and some of the sides so that the lights could brighten the stage from the back.

Advertisement/Desire

  1. Attributes: This is a picture from a KitKat ad
  2. Theme: Advertisement/Desire
  3. Description: I really like this add partially because I really love KitKats. I also really like how the lighting is really simple (just some white light from the side), but it’s super effective in highlighting the detail of the chocolate which, because we already know how good KitKats are, makes it look really appealing

From Google Images

I chose this Takis ad because the purple light coming from behind accentuates the bag. The red and orange from the flames are bright and draws in whoever sees it. The use of cool and warm tones causes a contradiction and makes the ad more interesting. When the flames catch your eye you are then drawn into the deepness of the purple bag.

Lighting Observation #7

Date/Time/Location: Wednesday, March 30 at 7:15 from the 12th floor lounge on Constitution

Objective Description: A pastel sunset over the city and the light it gives in my window

Subjective Description: Thy is alight with softer pink, fading into a warmer light blue. The surrounding clouds are a bit of a softer pastel orange color. The sun itself is a vibrant red, made brighter by the surrounding clouds which make it seem much bigger than it is. From my position in Constitution, the sun encompasses half the city in its rich, red orange glow. That same city is made a light pink/orange-tinted gray rather than deeper gray or black it is because of both the distance from my window and the light from the sun. As it reaches the window, it reflects slightly off the wall just beside it and fills my room with, yet again, a soft, pinkish glow. The room is covered in it. Where normally the inside of the room look a little bit drab and boring, now there’s a bit of an ethereal feel to the furnishings and the walls

Lighting Observation #7

DATE – TIME – LOCATION : March 27, 2022 at 12:24, Elite Sound Stage Studio

OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION : The room is all black, and it is lit with bright pink and purple front lights. There is fog filling the room. There are a lot of moving bodies in the space.

SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION : The bright lights shining into the face of the audience creates an energizing atmosphere. The pinks and purples bring a sense of joy and lightheartedness. The fog in correlation with the moving bodies blurs the lights in a way that makes the space seem like it is in constant motion. The entire atmosphere seems energized for a good time. The outside world seems to melt away with the black walls of the space, and all that is left is the flooding brightness from the stage area.

Advertisement/Desire

ATTRIBUTES : This photo is from a Dior Sauvage cologne advertisement.

THEME : Advertisement/Desire

DESCRIPTION : I chose this photo because when I think of desire, I first think of cologne commercials. They try to sell their product by making customers desire to be like the actor the company pays to be in their advertisement. A large part of this idea of desire is in the lighting. In this picture, Johnny Depp is lit mostly by ambient blue lighting of the sky. He is also highlighted by a fire, first and foremost giving him more sculpted facial features. This fire also creates a romantic atmosphere with its more dim lighting to create a sensation of intimacy and the warm tones. The highlighting of Depp with warm tones against the cool tone background also makes him pull the eye much more.

Lighting Moment

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: 3/29 11:45am Black Box

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: I was up on the grid focusing lights with the rest of our stage lighting class. All of the work lights are off so its very dark except for the instruments being adjusted.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The set is lit up below. The warm glow seeps up into the grid. The faces around me are only recognizable from their tell tale features. It feels like we are spying on the “scene” below. Also, the light from below illuminates the faces around me in a way that is eerie because they are all being lit from below.

Light Observation

  1. March 26, 2022 7:17 pm
  2. Arizona
  3. Sitting in a parked car adjusting take out boxes and noticed the bright blue from the radio lighting up the center console of the car. The digital clock is slightly less bright and a pale teal/green. In from of the car is the neon sign for a sushi restaurant and the moon is blocked by the roof of the car but is slighting above and ahead to brightly light the dashboard. The usually dark grey fabric is now a silver ish brown and the pattern is very clearly discernible.
